In 1875 Heineken won the Medaille D'Or at the International Maritime Exposition in Paris and it began to be shipped there regularly, after which Heineken sales topped 64,000 hectolitres (1.7 million U.S. gallons), making them the biggest beer exporter to France. The Heineken Experience, located in Amsterdam, is a historic brewery and corporate visitor center for the internationally distributed Dutch pilsner, Heineken beer. History Background The industrial facility was built as the first Heineken brewery in 1867, serving as the company's primary brewing facility until 1988 when a more modern, larger facility was constructed on the outskirts of the city. Foundation In 1991, the brewery opened its doors to the public through a visitor centre, known as the "Heineken Treat and Information Centre" (). Although the Heineken Experience began in 1991, there were tours of the original brewery while it was still fully operational. It grew to become one of Amsterdam's most popular tourist attractions and by 2001 the visitor centre changed its name to "Heineken Experience". Heineken Light (labelled as ''Heineken 3'' in Australia) is a light beer brewed by Heineken International, Heineken for the United States market. It was introduced in 2005. Heineken light reportedly has: 90 calories per 12 oz. bottle and 6.8 grams of carbohydrates. The beer has fewer calories, less carbohydrate, and less alcohol (drug), alcohol than lager, lager beers such as the Heineken Pilsener. The beer has 3.3% alcohol by volume. Nieuwezijds Achterburgwal
The Spuistraat in downtown Amsterdam connects the Hekelveld to the Spui. It runs roughly north to south, parallel to the Singel and the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. At the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, the Spuistraat crosses the Raadhuisstraat and Paleisstraat. Originally the Spuistraat was a canal, the Nieuwezijds Achterburgwal.
