Cătălina Axente
Cătălina Axente (born 31 October 1995) is a Romanian freestyle wrestler. She won one of the bronze medals in the 72kg event at the 2020 European Wrestling Championships held in Rome, Italy. She also won one of the bronze medals in the 76kg event at the 2023 European Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia. Career In 2018, Axente won a bronze medal in the 76kg event at the European U23 Wrestling Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey. She defeated Francy Rädelt of Germany in her bronze medal match. Axente represented Romania at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus in the 76kg where she lost her only match against Ayşegül Özbeğe. In 2020, she was eliminated in her first match in the women's 76kg event at the Individual Wrestling World Cup held in Belgrade, Serbia. 2022 World Wrestling Championships
The 2022 World Wrestling Championships was the 17th edition of the World Wrestling Championships of combined events and was held between 10 and 18 September 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia. The UWW Bureau approved the candidature of Belgrade, Serbia as the host of the 2023 Senior World Championships. However, due to the restrictions on Russian Federation, Russia for hosting World Championships in 2021–2022, Belgrade replaced the former city of Krasnoyarsk as the World Championships host for 2022. In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes have been banned from 2022 World Championships. The women's freestyle 76 kilograms is a competition featured at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships, and was held in Belgrade, Serbia on 13 and 14 September 2022. This freestyle wrestling competition consists of a single-elimination tournament, with a repechage used to determine the winner of two bronze medals. The two finalists face off for gold and silver medals. Each wrestler who loses to one of the two finalists moves into the repechage, culminating in a pair of bronze medal matches featuring the semifinal losers each facing the remaining repechage opponent from their half of the bracket. Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series 2022
The Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series 2022 was a wrestling event held in Ostia, Rome, Italy between 22 and 25 of June 2022. The third United World Wrestling Ranking Series event of the year, it featured multiple World and Olympic Champions, Pan-American Champions, European Champions, Asian Champions and NCAA Champions. The United World Wrestling postponed the Matteo Pellicone. Despite the efforts of the Italian Wrestling Federation to host Rome's Matteo Pellicone on the previously scheduled dates of February 4–7, the latest restrictions due to the Omicron variant proved to be a roadblock in hosting the event. The tournament will now be held June 22–25 in Rome, Italy preceding the 2022 European Juniors Wrestling Championships, which begin June 27 at the Pala Pellicone. The 2021 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament was the last wrestling qualification tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The event was held from 6 to 9 May 2021, in Sofia, Bulgaria. Qualification summary A total of 36 athletes secured a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan.
