Cégep du Vieux Montréal is a CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel, or College of General and Vocational Education) located at 255 Ontario Street East, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The College of General and Vocational Education is affiliated with the ACCC and CCAA. History In 1967, several institutions were merged and became public, when the Quebec system of CEGEPs was created. Established in 1968, it was composed of five distinct pavilions. Since 1976, it has been regrouped into a single, 11-story building, but with three secondary pavilions. Programs The CEGEP offers two types of programs: pre-university and technical. A CEGEP ( or ; ), also written cégep, CÉGEP and cegep, is a publicly funded college providing technical, academic, vocational or a mix of programs; they are exclusive to the province of Quebec's education system. A loanword from French, it originates from the French acronym for , sometimes known in English as a "General and Vocational College"—it is now considered a word in itself. Although all colleges in Quebec are colloquially referred to as CEGEPs, only public colleges are officially referred to by that name. Amir Khadir ( fa, امیر خدیر; born June 12, 1961) is a Canadian politician in the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA), Canada for the electoral district of Mercier, and the first male spokesperson for Québec solidaire, a sovereigntist and left-wing political party which was created by the merger of the Union des Forces Progressistes and Option Citoyenne, a feminist political movement, in February 2006. On December 8, 2008, Khadir became the first, and at that time, only elected representative for Québec solidaire in the general election in Quebec. Nathalie Daoust (born March 31, 1977) is a Canadian photographer and contemporary artist. Biography Daoust studied photography at the Cégep du Vieux Montreal (1994–1997). Upon graduating, she moved to New York City, where she spent two years inhabiting and photographing the uniquely themed rooms of the Carlton Arms Hotel. These images comprise her first book, ''New York Hotel Story'', published in 2002. ''New York Hotel Story'' introduces many of the themes she grapples with in subsequent works, including identity, gender, sexuality, time and memory, and escapism.
