Cédric Van Styvendael (born 15 October 1973) is a French politician serving as mayor of Villeurbanne since 2020. He concurrently serves as vice president for culture of the Metropolitan Council of Lyon since 2020. In France, a mayor (, ) is chairperson of the Municipal council (France), municipal council, which organises the work and deliberates on municipal matters. The mayor also has significant powers and their own responsibilities, such as the responsibility for the activities of Municipal Police (France), municipal police and for the management of municipal staff. Villeurbanne (; ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. It is situated northeast of Lyon, with which it forms the heart of the second-largest metropolitan area in France after that of Paris. Villeurbanne is the second-largest commune in the metropolitan area of Lyon and the 20th most populated in France, and the most populous commune that is neither a prefecture nor a sub-prefecture. The Metropolitan Council of Lyon () is the deliberative assembly of the Lyon metropolis, a territorial collectivity with special status, made up of 150 metropolitan councilors. History Created on 1 January 2015, the metropolis of Lyon replaced the urban community of Lyon and, in its territory, the Rhône department. It exercises both the competencies of a department and those of a metropolitan area. 2022 French Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in France on 10 and 24 April 2022. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a Two-round system, runoff was held, in which Emmanuel Macron defeated Marine Le Pen and was re-elected as President of France. Macron, from La République En Marche! (LREM), had defeated Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, once already in the 2017 French presidential election, for the term which expired on 13 May 2022. Macron became the first president of France to win a re-election bid since Jacques Chirac won in 2002 French presidential election, 2002. In the first round Macron finished first with 28% of the vote, followed by Le Pen with 23%, Jean-Luc Mélenchon of La France Insoumise with 22% and Éric Zemmour of Reconquête with 7%. Ana María "Anne" Hidalgo Aleu (, ; born 19 June 1959) is a Spanish-French politician who has served as Mayor of Paris since 2014, the first woman to hold the office.
