Cypress Records
Cypress Records was an American record label, founded in 1986 by Craig Sussman and Ted Cohen. Initially distributed in the United States by PolyGram, Cypress changed distribution to A&M Records in 1988. After A&M was sold PolyGram in January 1990, Cypress Records was distributed by Bertelsmann Music Group until the label was closed in 1991. The label's roster included Tower of Power, David Knopfler, Jennifer Warnes, Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers. and Michael Damian (whose song Rock On became Cypress Records' sole #1 hit). Ted Cohen (music Industry Executive)
Ted Cohen (born January 6, 1949) is an American digital entertainment industry executive. Having worked in senior management positions at EMI Music, Warner Bros. Records and Philips Media, Cohen is currently the Managing Partner of TAG Strategic. Cohen currently chairs the Visionary Committee for MidemNet, served on the NARAS (Grammy) Los Angeles chapter Board of Governors as well as the National Trustee Board and currently co-chairs the Grammy Technology Committee. Cohen serves on the board of directors for the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, Lyricfind.com, and Music.com, and works in the music and technology education programs the Grammy In The Schools Program and MusiCares. A&M Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group and functions as a branch of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, Interscope-Geffen-A&M. Established in 1962 by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, the label initially operated independently. It rapidly gained recognition in the music industry, becoming a major-independent label until its acquisition by PolyGram in 1989. After this acquisition, A&M continued to operate as a self-managed frontline label within the PolyGram framework. David Knopfler (born 27 December 1952) is a British musician. Together with his older brother Mark Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers, he founded the rock band Dire Straits in 1977, serving as rhythm guitarist on their first two albums. After quitting the band in 1980 during the recording of their third album, Knopfler embarked upon a solo career as a recording artist. Jennifer Jean Warnes (born March 3, 1947) is an American singer and songwriter who has performed as a vocalist on a number of film soundtracks. She has won two Grammy Awards, in 1983 for the Joe Cocker duet " Up Where We Belong", and in 1987 for the Bill Medley duet "(I've Had) The Time of My Life". Warnes also collaborated closely with Leonard Cohen. Early life Warnes was born on March 3, 1947, in Seattle, Washington, but raised in Anaheim, California. Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers
Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers are a British novelty pop music act from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. The face of the group was Jive Bunny, a cartoon rabbit who appeared in their music videos. Costumed actors also made promotional appearances as the character. Doncaster DJ and producer Les Hemstock created the original " Swing the Mood" mix for the Music Factory owned Mastermix DJ service. It was then taken from there and developed as a single release by father and son team John and Andrew Pickles. The name Jive Bunny was devised by Andy Pickles. Ian Morgan, a fellow DJ and co-producer, also engineered and mixed some of the early releases along with Andy Pickles.
