Cynolebiidae
The Rivulidae are a family of killifishes in the order Cyprinodontiformes. They are commonly known as rivulids, South American killifish or New World killifish. The latter names are slightly misleading, however, as they are neither restricted to South America – though most are in fact found there –, nor are they the only killifishes from the Americas. Occasionally, they are still referred to as rivulines, a term dating back to when they were considered a subfamily of the Aplocheilidae. The subfamilial name "Rivulinae" was already established for noctuid moths by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1895. That name, though it is the senior homonym, may be suppressed because the name Rivulinae for the fish subfamily is widespread, whereas the moth taxon is little used. The use of Rivulidae as the name for this family may need to be ruled in by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. The alternative family-group name Cynolebiidae Hoedeman 1961 has been pro ...

Anablepsoides
''Anablepsoides'' is a genus of killifish in the family Rivulidae native to tropical South America and the Lesser Antilles. The majority are from the Amazon and Orinoco basins, as well as freshwater systems in the Guiana Shield, but a few species are from northern Venezuela, northeastern Brazil ( Tocantins River basin, as well as systems in Ceará and Maranhão) and the Lesser Antilles (Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Martinique and Margarita).Andrews, O. (2015). . The Online Guide to the Animals of Trinidad and Tobago Ecology. Retrieved 5 November 2018. Although largely restricted to lowlands, a few species occur in the lower East Andean foothills. They are mostly found in shallow fresh water swamps, streams, edges of rivers, ponds and pools, but a few may occur in brackish estuaries. They are able to jump over land and breathe air for short periods, allowing them to access isolated waters inhabited by few or no other fish. Several ''Anablepsoides'' species have small distri ...

Aplocheilidae
Aplocheilidae, the Asian killifishes or Asian rivulines, is a family (biology), family of fish in the order (biology), order Cyprinodontiformes found in Asia. Some authorities use this family-group name, which is well-established, for a single lumped aplocheiloid family as it gives the nomenclature stability over time and avoids the impact of a new name at family rank for a popular aquarium fish group.van der Laan, R., Eschmeyer, W.N. & Fricke, R. (2014)Family-group names of Recent fishes.''Zootaxa, 3882 (2): 1–230.'' Following this proposal, Aplocheilidae would include three subfamilies: Aplocheilinae for the species from Asia, Madagascar and the Seychelles; Cynolebiidae, Cynolebiinae (formerly called Rivulidae) for the species from the Americas; and Nothobranchiidae, Nothobranchiinae for the species from the African mainland.Costa, W.J.E.M. Aplocheiloidei
Aplocheiloidei is a suborder of the order Cyprinodontiformes consisting of three families which are commonly known as killifishes. Families The three families within the suborder Aplocheiloidei are: * Aplocheilidae Bleeker, 1859 * Nothobranchiidae Garman, 1895 * Rivulidae Myers, 1925 Proposed taxonomy Some authorities have lumped the three families into a single family, Aplocheilidae, a well-established name, chosen for its stability in usage over time, and to avoid the impact of a new name at the family rank for a popular aquarium fish group. Under this proposal, the Aplocheilidae includes three subfamilies: Aplocheilinae for the species from Asia, Madagascar and the Seychelles Seychelles (, ; ), officially the Republic of Seychelles (french: link=no, République des Seychelles; Creole: ''La Repiblik Sesel''), is an archipelagic state consisting of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Kryptolebias Marmoratus
The mangrove killifish or mangrove rivulus, ''Kryptolebias marmoratus'' (syn. ''Rivulus marmoratus''), is a species of killifish in the family Rivulidae. It lives in brackish and marine waters (less frequently in fresh water) along the coasts of Florida, through the Antilles, and along the eastern and northern Atlantic coasts of Mexico, Central America and South America (south to Brazil). It has a very wide tolerance of both salinity (0—68 ‰)Bester, CMangrove Rivulus.Florida Museum. Retrieved 6 May 2017. and temperature (),Hill, K Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce. Retrieved 6 May 2017. can survive for about two months on land, and mostly breeds by self-fertilization. It is typically found in areas with red mangrove and sometimes lives in burrows of '' Cardisoma guanhumi'' crabs. The mangrove rivulus is up to long, but most individuals are . Overall the mangrove rivulus is widespread and not threatened, but in the United States it is considered a Species of Concer ...

Leptolebias
''Leptolebias'' is a ray-finned fish genus of the killifish family Rivulidae. Like many of their relatives, they are rather ambiguously known as " pearlfish". They are endemic to the coastal areas of Brazil, where they inhabit ephemeral pools in tropical forests like the Mata Atlântica (or what remains thereof) and restinga. Rare and little-known, the entire genus seems to be close to extinction. Specifically, ''Leptolebias'' species have been found in two regions to date: between Maricá and Vila de Cava in Rio de Janeiro state, and between Itanhaém in southern São Paulo state and the Paranaguá bay catchment area in Paraná state. Description These small fishes measure only 2–3 cm (around one inch) in standard length. The females are colored uniformly brown, without darker markings, as are the females of some related killifishes. The males may have some dark pigmentation, but it does not extend into the distal dorsal fin, as it does in many related genera. Other ...

Seth Eugene Meek
Seth Eugene Meek (April 1, 1859, Hicksville, Ohio – July 6, 1914, Chicago) was an American ichthyologist at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. He was the first compiler of a book on Mexican freshwater fishes. Together with his assistant, Samuel F. Hildebrand, he produced the first book on the freshwater fishes of Panama. He often collaborated with Charles H. Gilbert, and in 1884 on a collecting trip through the Ozarks, they discovered a new species, ''Etheostoma nianguae'', which only lives in the Osage River basin. Also with them on that excursion was David Starr Jordan, considered the father of modern ichthyology. After the Ozarks trip, Meek accepted the post of professor of biology and geology at Arkansas Industrial University (now the University of Arkansas). Tribute The American halfbeak The American halfbeak (''Hyporhamphus meeki''), also known as Meek's halfbeak, is a halfbeak from the family Hemiramphidae. Campellolebias
''Campellolebias'' is a genus of killifish in the family Rivulidae from southeast Brazil. They are restricted to seasonal blackwater pools in forests in coastal parts of Santa Catarina and São Paulo states. They are small fish, up to in total length. Uniquely among killifish, ''Campellolebias'' and the closely related ''Cynopoecilus'' have internal fertilization. A part of the males' anal fin forms a "pseudo-gonopodium" that is used for inseminating the female. Species There are currently four recognized species in this genus: * ''Campellolebias brucei'' Vaz Ferreira & Sierra de Soriano, 1974 (Swordfin killifish) * '' Campellolebias chrysolineatus'' W. J. Austrofundulus
''Austrofundulus'' is a genus of killifish in the family Rivulidae native to northern Colombia, northern Venezuela and southwestern Guyana. They are annual killifish where adults generally have a short life in temporary ponds or swamps and the eggs experience a period of drought, only hatching when again covered by water. They are small thickset fish, no more than in total length, and most less than half that size. Species ''Austrofundulus'' is closely related to ''Rachovia'', and it has been suggested that the former should be merged into the latter.
