Cycling At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Women's Pursuit C4
The women's individual pursuit class C4 track cycling event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics took place on 30 August 2024 at the Vélodrome National. Competition format The C category is for cyclists with a physical impairment (muscle power or range of motion, and impairments affecting the coordination) that prevents them from competing in able-bodied competition but still competes using a standard bicycle. The competition starts with a qualifying round where it comprises a head-to-head race between the 9 cyclists; The 2 fastest cyclists in the qualifying would qualify to the gold medal final while the 3rd and 4th fastest will qualify to the bronze medal final where they will race head-to-head. The distance of this event is 3000 metres. The medal finals are also held on the same day as the qualifying. Vélodrome National
The Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is a velodrome in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. It was built between 2011 and 2014 and hosted the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, 2015, 2022 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, and the 2016 UEC European Track Championships. It hosted the cycling venue in the 2024 Summer Olympics. The track is 250 m long and 8 m wide, a metre wider than most other tracks. The velodrome is 36km from the Olympic Village, and is close to other 2024 Summer Olympics venues: Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium, Golf National, Colline d'Élancourt (mountain biking), and the Palace of Versailles. Shawn Morelli (born March 29, 1976) is an American Paralympic three-time gold medalist in cycling at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and the 2020 Paralympic Games, winning four overall medals in both road and track cycling. Early life and education Morelli was born March 29, 1976, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. In 1996, she attended Marion Military Institute, where she graduated with a commission as a Second Lieutenant engineer officer in the United States Army. In 1998, she graduated from Penn State University with a major in history. Career Morelli is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the war in Afghanistan. She retired as a Major in the United States Army. After being injured in 2007, she began competitive para-cycling in 2010 and has participated in world championships since 2014. Meg Lemon (born 5 October 1989) is an Australian Paralympic cyclist. She represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics where she won a bronze medal and the 2024 Paris Paralympics, where she won a silver medal medal. Personal Lemon was born on 5 October 1989. She attended Sacred Heart College in Adelaide, South Australia. Lemon has a bachelor's degree, Nutrition and Dietetics from Flinders University and works as a sports dietitian. Franziska Matile-Dörig (born 26 March 1992) is a Swiss para-cyclist. Sporting career Matile-Dörig was a competitive orienteering athlete. After a long injury break, she retired as a squad athlete, but continued running, mountain sports, ski touring and trail running. She worked as a physiotherapist and trained as an outdoor guide. In a traffic accident in April 2021, she suffered broken bones in both feet. Her left foot was subsequently stiff and deformed. As part of her rehabilitation, she was suggested to take up cycling. In 2022, Matile-Dörig took part in her first paracycling race in Brugg and came into contact with national coach Dany Hirs, who has been training her ever since. Samantha Bosco (''nee'' Heinrich; February 18, 1987) is an American Paralympic athlete. She competed in Cycling at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, winning two bronze medals. Early life and education Bosco was born on February 18, 1987, in Anchorage, Alaska with a bowed tibia in her right leg. She began cycling with her father at the age of seven but surgery to lengthen her leg at the age of 11 left her with crutches, atrophied muscles, and a surgically stunted left leg. As she was unable to cycle, Bosco began rowing and earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Central Florida. However, the chronic injury forced her to retire from the sport after her sophomore year.
