White City Stadium
White City Stadium in London, England, was built for the 1908 Summer Olympics. It hosted the finish of the first modern marathon and swimming, speedway, boxing, show jumping, athletics, stock car racing, concerts and a match at the 1966 FIFA World Cup, 1966 World Cup. He won the silver medal together with his teammates Karl Neumer, Max Götze, and Rudolf Katzer in the team pursuit. He also competed in the 660 yards sprint, in the 5000 metres race, in the 20 kilometres, and in the 1000 metre sprint, but was always eliminated in the first round. Career He won the silver medal together with his teammates Karl Neumer, Rudolf Katzer, and Hermann Martens in the team pursuit. Ernest Payne (23 December 1884 – 10 September 1961) was an English track cycling racer. Born in Worcester, he won a gold medal in the team pursuit at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London for Great Britain and went on to play football, including two games as an amateur for Manchester United. Background Payne was born in a cottage at Red Hill, Worcester, in 1884 to John Payne, a gardener, and his wife Annie (née Morris). He worked as a carpenter.
