Arthur William Cutten
Arthur William Cutten (July 6, 1870 – June 24, 1936) was a Canadians, Canadian-born businessman who gained great wealth and prominence as a commodity speculator in the United States. He was called to appear before the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Banking and Currency Committee in regard to the causes of the Wall Street crash of 1929. He was under indictment for tax evasion upon his death in Chicago in 1936. Early life Born in the rural community of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Arthur Cutten was the second of nine children of Walter Hoyt Cutten (1844–1915), a prominent Guelph barrister, and his wife Annie McFadden. George Barton Cutten
George Barton Cutten (1874–1962) was a Canadian-born psychologist, moral philosopher, historian and university administrator. He was president of Acadia University from 1910 to 1922 and Colgate University from 1922 to 1942. Career Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, the son of a stipendiary magistrate, he was uncertain about what path his life should take. He had various jobs including reporter, salesman, and pipe fitter before his uncle locked him in a room, refusing to let him out until he agreed to go to university. By the fall of 1892, he had enrolled at Acadia University, Wolfville, where he joined the varsity rugby team and within three years had led the team to victory over rival Dalhousie University in 1895. He earned his BA in 1896 and a year later he was ordained a Baptist minister. He went on to Yale University and by 1902 he had earned a degree in divinity and a PhD in psychology. William Cutten
William Henry Cutten (10 April 1822 – 30 June 1883) was a New Zealand politician from the Otago region. Biography Cutten was born in London in 1822. He received a good education and then studied law, which earned him a job at the department of the commissioner of bankruptcy. At age 26, Cutten emigrated to New Zealand in 1848, arriving in Dunedin with the first settlers, including William Cargill on the '' John Wickliffe''. Two years later, in 1850, he married Cargill's eldest daughter, Christina Dorothea Cargill, and the couple had 11 children. Initially in the new settlement he was an auctioneer and storekeeper, but then became an immigration agent before being appointed a lands claim commissioner and, later, chief commissioner of Crown lands. Cutten served in the 1st New Zealand Parliament as representative for the Dunedin Country electorate –1855, but resigned before the end of his term, as he found it unsustainable to spend that much time at parliament in Auckland ...

The city was named for David Page Cutten and his family, who were prominent figures in the history of Humboldt County during the early 1850s.
