Crown Point Press
Crown Point Press is a long-established printmaking workshop, primarily creating and publishing etched, intaglio prints. Located in San Francisco since 1986, Crown Point Press was first established in 1962 in Richmond California by Kathan Brown. Crown Point Press works with artists by invitation-only and has published prints by over 100 artists including Anne Appleby, John Baldessari, Robert Bechtle, Chuck Close, John Cage, Elaine de Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn, Alex Katz, Ed Ruscha, and Pat Stier. They are identified as the publisher of a fictional collection of letters featured in the Spike Jonze 2013 film, ''Her.'' Intaglio (printmaking)
Intaglio ( ; ) is the family of printing and printmaking techniques in which the image is incised into a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. It is the direct opposite of a relief print where the parts of the matrix that make the image stand ''above'' the main surface. Normally copper, or in recent times zinc, sheets called plates are used as a surface or matrix, and the incisions are created by etching, engraving, drypoint, aquatint or mezzotint, often in combination. Collagraphs may also be printed as intaglio plates. After the decline of the main relief technique of woodcut around 1550, the intaglio techniques dominated both artistic printmaking as well as most types of illustration and popular prints until the mid 19th century. Spike Jonze
Adam Spiegel (born October 22, 1969), known professionally as Spike Jonze (), is an American Filmmaking, filmmaker, actor, musician, and photographer. His work includes films, commercials, music videos, skateboard videos and television. Jonze began his career as a teenager photographing BMX riders and skateboarding, skateboarders for ''Freestylin' Magazine'' and ''Transworld Skateboarding'', and co-founding the youth culture magazine ''Dirt (magazine), Dirt''. Oxbow School
The Oxbow School is a private single semester arts school for high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and gap year students located in Napa, California, sitting near an oxbow of the Napa River. High school and gap year students can choose to attend in either the fall or spring semester with visual arts and academic focus. Oxbow also offers a 6-week Summer Art Institute for the same grade levels. Linda Geary
Linda Geary (born 1960) is an American visual artist and educator. She is known for her large scale abstract paintings and murals. Geary is chair of the painting department and a professor at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. She lives in Oakland, California. Biography Linda Geary was born on February 14, 1960, in Santa Rosa, California, to parents Therese (née Hassler) and William Geary. She received two B.A. degrees in 1982 from the University of San Diego, in fine arts and English; and received a M.F.A. degree in 1986 from the University of Delaware, in painting. Brian Shure
Brian R. Shure (born 1952) is an American printmaker, painter, author and educator. He is best known for his mastery of printing techniques, knowledge of lesser known art techniques and has published multiple books about the art of chine-collé. Early life Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he grew up in Willowick and then Mentor. As a teenager he started taking art classes at Cleveland Institute of Art. In 1974 he graduated with a B.A. in art from Antioch College. He apprenticed with Ernest deSoto and Collectors Press, a lithography press in San Francisco. Paulson Fontaine Press (formerly Paulson Bott Press) is a printmaking studio, gallery, and publisher of contemporary fine art prints in Berkeley, California. Many of their publications are etchings.
