Cross Keys RFC
Cross Keys RFC () is a rugby union club located in the Wales, Welsh village of Crosskeys. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union, and is a feeder club for the Dragons (rugby union), Dragons regional team. History The club achieved first class-status in 1909, winning the Monmouthshire league three times. By 1920 the team had their first international player, when Steve Morris (rugby union), Steve Morris won a cap for Wales national rugby union team, Wales. Morris would win 19 caps and captained Wales in 1925. Caps followed during the 1920s for Ossie Male and Lonza Bowdler, both returned over several seasons for Wales, facing not only Six Nations Championship, Five Nations Championships but also touring teams. Crosskeys () is a village, community (Wales), community and an Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, electoral ward in Caerphilly county borough in Wales. Etymology The village was originally named Pont-y-cymer and this remains the official Welsh language, Welsh name for the village. The name means ''bridge at the confluence of rivers'', and suggests the area was known as a place to bridge the confluence of the Ebbw River, Ebbw and the Sirhowy River, Sirhowy rivers, long before its urban development in the nineteenth century. Pontypridd Rugby Football Club () is a rugby union team from Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It competes in the Admiral Premiership and the WRU Premiership Cup, a trophy which they won for the 7th time in 2025. Their last league title winning campaign came in 2015. Jack Hurrell
John Richard "Jack" Hurrell (17 August 1933 – 2003) was a Welsh international rugby union centre who played club rugby for Cross Keys RFC, Tredegar and Newport. He was awarded just one cap for Wales facing France in the 1959 Five Nations Championship. Personal history Hurrell was born in Cwmcarn, Monmouthshire, in 1933. An electrician by trade, he left Wales and moved to Birmingham after his rugby career came to an end. He dies at the wheel of his car near his home in Solihull in 2003. George Boots
John George Boots (1874–1928) was a Welsh international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Newport and county rugby with Monmouthshire. He won 16 caps for Wales. Boots was seen as a consistent player with a superb positional sense who would tackle hard and smother the loose ball; his passing skill was strong as was his catching and dribbling. Boots was not a flair player but was a good "spoiler" and could turn defence into attack, giving backs, such as Gwyn Nicholls and Llewellyn Lloyd, a platform to run in tries.
