Croome, Worcestershire
Croome Court is a mid-18th-century Neo-Palladian mansion surrounded by extensive landscaped parkland at Croome D'Abitot, near Upton-upon-Severn in south Worcestershire, England. The mansion and park were designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown for the 6th Earl of Coventry, and they were Brown's first landscape design and first major architectural project. Some of the mansion's rooms were designed by Robert Adam. St Mary Magdalene's Church, Croome D'Abitot that sits within the grounds of the park is now owned and cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The mansion house is owned by Croome Heritage Trust and leased to the National Trust, which operates it as a tourist attraction. Earl's Croome is a village and civil parish in the Malvern Hills District in the county of Worcestershire, England. History The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book, 1086, as ''Crumba''. The first part of its name is derived from the Earl of Coventry who had Earl's Croome Court as a residence opposite the village church. The church is St. Nicholas Church of England. In 1377, or 1378, Henry de Ardern was granted the manor of Croome Adam (now Earls Croome) by the Earl of Warwick for a red rose. Beric John Croome
Beric John Croome (23 May 1960 – 22 April 2019) was a chartered accountant, Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and one of South Africa's tax law scholars. Research interests Croome's doctoral thesis dealt with issues relating to constitutional law, taxpayers' rights and the powers of the South African Revenue Services. This thesis won the doctoral category of the Deneys Reitz Tax Thesis Competition 2009. In 2009, the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners recognised this thesis as "a significant contribution to South African tax Jurisprudence". In November 2014, Croome presented a paper entitled "The Shift to a Constitutional Democracy in 1994 and the impact thereof on tax law in South Africa" at the University of Cape Town's conference "Income Tax in South Africa: The First 100 Years". Judy Croome (born Judy-Ann Heinemann on 16 December 1958) is a South African novelist, short story writer, and poet, who was born in Zvishavane, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). She received a Master of Arts (English) degree from the University of South Africa. She currently lives in Johannesburg. Croome was married to South African tax law scholar, Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and tax author, the late Dr Beric John Croome, who died in April 2019 after a long illness. Rodney Peter Croome AM is an Australian LGBT rights activist and academic. He worked on the campaign to decriminalise homosexuality in Tasmania, was a founder of Australian Marriage Equality, and currently serves as the spokesperson for the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group and a spokesperson for LGBT advocacy group Just.Equal. Early life Croome grew up on a dairy farm in Tasmania's North West and studied European History at the University of Tasmania, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1988.
