Hansie Cronje
Wessel Johannes Cronje (25 September 1969 – 1 June 2002) was a South African international cricketer and captain of the South Africa national cricket team in the 1990s. A right-handed all-rounder, as captain Cronje led his team to victory in 27 Test matches and 99 One Day Internationals. Cronje also led South Africa to win the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy, the first major ICC title the country has won in international cricket. In the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy Final, Cronje played a major role with the bat with his 61 not out, leading the team to victory by 4 wickets. He was voted the 11th-greatest South African in 2004 despite having been banned from cricket for life due to his role in a match-fixing scandal. He died in a plane crash in 2002. Hermione Cronje
Hermione Theresa Cronje is a South African lawyer and former prosecutor. She was the inaugural head of the National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate (ID) from May 2019 to February 2022. Early life and education Cronje was born in 1970 or 1971. She grew up on the Cape Flats of Cape Town. Among other places, her family spent time in Atlantis, Elsies River and Athlone. After finishing high school, she attended the University of Cape Town, where she was the first black woman to serve as president of the student representative council. She completed a BA in 1993 and an LLB in 1996. 15 years later, while working as a prosecutor, she resumed her education at the Harvard Kennedy School, where she obtained an MPA in 2010. Frans Johannes Cornelius Cronje is a South African former cricketer who played for Border, Griqualand West and Orange Free State during the 1980s and 1990s. He later became a film producer, director and writer, specialising in films with a Christian theme. He produced the 2008 film '' Hansie'', based on the life of his brother, Hansie Cronje, the former South Africa national cricket team captain. Nicolene Cronje (born 16 June 1983 in Bellville, Western Cape) is a South African race walker. She has been selected to compete for South Africa at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and holds numerous African championship titles and continental records in race walking (a distance of both 10 and 20 km). Andries Petrus Johannes Cronjé (A.P.J. Cronjé, 18 June 1849 – 23 February 1923) was a Second Boer War general, like his older brother Piet Cronjé (1836 – 1911). After surrendering to the British he became a prominent member of the National Scouts Corps, who assisted the British military against the remaining Boer guerrillas in the last years of the Boer War. Pieter Arnoldus "Piet" Cronjé (4 October 1836 – 4 February 1911) was a South African Boer general during the Anglo-Boer Wars of 1880–1881 and 1899–1902. Biography Born in the Cape Colony but raised in the South African Republic, Cronjé had a distinctive appearance, being short with a black beard and was reputed to have considerable personal courage. He made his reputation in the First Boer War, besieging the British garrison at Potchefstroom. He was unable to force their surrender until after the conclusion of the general armistice, and was at this time accused of withholding knowledge of this armistice from the garrison.
