Crimea Germans
The Crimea Germans (, , ) were ethnic German settlers who were invited by Russia to colonize the Crimea as part of the ''Ostsiedlung'' ("East Settlement"). History From 1783 onwards, there was a systematic settlement of Russians, Ukrainians, and Germans to the Crimean Peninsula (in what was then the Crimean Khanate) in order to weaken the Crimean Tatar population. The first planned settlements of Germans in Crimea were founded over 1805–1810 with the support of Czar Alexander I. Krasnohvardiiske Raion (), known by Ukrainian authorities as Kurman Raion (, ) is one of the 25 regions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a territory recognised by a majority of countries as part of Ukraine and annexed by Russia. Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic
Several different governments controlled the Crimean Peninsula during the period of the Soviet Union, from the 1920s to 1991. The government of Crimea from 1921 to 1936 was the Crimean Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic, which was an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (SFSR); the name was altered slightly to the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic from 1936 to 1945. Due to alleged collaboration of Crimean Tatars with Nazi Germany during World War II, all Crimean Tatars were deported by the Soviet regime in 1944 and the peninsula was resettled with other peoples, mainly Russians and Ukrainians, leaving the autonomous republic without its titular nationality.
