Hague, Florida
Hague is an unincorporated community in Alachua County, Florida, United States. It is located on Alachua County Road 237 between U.S. Route 441 and the Deerhaven Subdivision line of the CSX Railroad, between the cities of Alachua and Gainesville. History Hague was established early in 1884 on the newly completed Savannah, Florida and Western Railway line between High Springs and Gainesville. It was named after Archelaus Hague (1828–1899), who was an early settler and landowner, and postmaster. By later in 1884, the community had about 75 residents, and in 1888 had three stores, two lumber mills, and three churches, as well as an express office and a post office. Large quantities of fruit and vegetables were shipped to northern states from Hague. Produce shipments continued from Hague through much of the 20th century. Florida State Road 222
State Road 222 (SR 222) is a 14.174-mile-long state road that serves northern Gainesville. The western terminus is at a diamond interchange with I-75 at exit 390, and the eastern terminus is at a fork at SR 26 just east of Gainesville. It is 4 lanes wide, but narrows to 2 lanes east of Airport Access Road, where it runs along the northwestern edges of the Newnans Lake State Forest followed by the Newnans Lake Conservation Area. At its western terminus, NW 39th Avenue continues west as two lane County Road 222 towards CR 241, a long county road. State Road 235 (SR 235) is a south–north state highway in Alachua County, Florida. It runs from U.S. Route 441 in Alachua to Brooker, and has county-maintained segments in Alachua and Bradford Counties, which were once part of SR 235. Route description The segment that is currently County Road 235 begins at State Road 26, and the first intersection it approaches is County Road 26A, a former segment and suffixed alternate route of SR 26. As it turns to the northeast, it spends much of its time running along the east side of the CSX Brooker Subdivision. This trajectory continues as it intersects CR 232, and later skirts the border of the City of Alachua, where the first road resembling a major intersection is CR 235A (''See below''). LaCrosse, Florida
LaCrosse is a town in Alachua County, Florida, north of Gainesville. The LaCrosse is part of the Gainesville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 US census, the town population was 316, down from 360 in 2010 US Census. The area around LaCrosse is devoted to agriculture, especially potatoes; the area is known as the "Potato District." Other products of the area include tobacco, vegetables, and cattle. History The earliest known non-indigenous people in the area settled the area in the 1840s, and the first known settler was a French immigrant named John Cellon. LaCrosse was an agricultural village by 1860, in an area mostly given over to cotton farming at the time.
