McKean County, Pennsylvania
McKean County is a rural county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,432. Its county seat is Smethport. The county was created in 1804 and organized in 1826. It was named in honor of former Pennsylvania Governor and Declaration of Independence signer Thomas McKean. The county is part of the North Central Pennsylvania region of the state. McKean County comprises the Bradford, Pennsylvania micropolitan statistical area. It includes the Allegheny National Forest and borders New York. The Allegheny River flows through much of the eastern portion of the county, and the Allegheny Reservoir is accessible on the county’s western border. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. Pennsylvania Route 446
Pennsylvania Route 446 (PA 446) is an state highway located in McKean County, Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at Route 46 in the Keating Township neighborhood of Farmers Valley. The northern terminus is at the New York state line near Portville, New York. Route 446 is mountainous for most of its length and its only street designation is Main Street. PA 446 is part of a family of routes interconnected with PA 46. However, unlike several others, PA 446 does connect to its parent route and PA 346. PA 446 was assigned in 1928 and used to be part of U.S. Route 6 (US 6) and PA 7. Tidewater Oil Company (rendered as Tide Water Oil Company from 1887 to 1936) was a major petroleum refining company during the early 20th century. After operating independently from 1887 to 1926, Tidewater was sold to a holding company. Over the decades, it passed through various corporate hands. Its various commercial brands for selling petroleum and gasoline products / fuel included Tydol, Flying A, and Veedol. In 2011, Veedol was sold by British Petroleum to Tidewater India.
