Copeville, South Australia
Copeville is a town and a locality in the Australian state of South Australia. It was established as a town on the Waikerie railway line, but the line has closed and the town has declined. The bulk grain silos are still at the railway station, but do not operate every grain season. There was once a Methodist church in Copeville. It joined the Karoonda circuit in 1966. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Copeville had a population of 34 people. Copeville is located within the federal division of Barker, the state electoral district of Hammond and the local government area of the District Council of Karoonda East Murray. Bowhill is a locality in South Australia. A settlement is located inside a bend on the left (eastern/southern) bank of the Murray River between Mannum and Swan Reach. It is predominantly shacks built facing the river bank. The settlement is in the Mid Murray Council area, but most of the locality is located away from the river and within the District Council of Karoonda East Murray, including the Lowan Conservation Park. Bowhill is located in the local government area of District Council of Karoonda East Murray, the state electoral district of Hammond and the federal Division of Barker. Hammond is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after Ruby Hammond, the first indigenous woman to stand for the Federal Parliament. Hammond is a rural electorate east and south-east of Adelaide, covering in the east and upper south-east of the state, and takes in the towns of Callington, Cambrai, Coomandook, Karoonda, Langhorne Creek, Mannum, Nildottie, Peake, Pinnaroo, Purnong and Tailem Bend. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Karoonda, South Australia
Karoonda is a town in the middle of the Murray Mallee region of South Australia ( northeast of Murray Bridge). The current boundaries include the former town of Lowaldie, which was the next stop on the railway line away from Adelaide. At the 2016 census, the locality of Karoonda had a population of 512, of whom 351 were living in and around the town of Karoonda. History Karoonda takes its name from the Aboriginal word for "winter camp". The town was founded on wheat-growing early in the 20th century (proclaimed on 11 December 1913), but the cleared land is also suitable for raising merino sheep. The Karoonda Development Group instigated and built a larger-than-life sculpture of a Merino ram in the park in the main street to emphasise this. Waikerie Railway Line
The Waikerie railway line was a railway line on the South Australian Railways network. Route The Waikerie railway line branched from the Barmera railway line at Karoonda, which was also the junction for the Peebinga railway line on the other side of the main line. It extended north, north-east, and north again to Waikerie, on the cliffs above the Murray River. History Before construction started on the Waikerie railway, there was active discussion about where it should branch from the Barmera or Adelaide-Wolseley line. Eventually, the decision was made that it should branch from Karoonda at the 30-mile siding from Tailem Bend. Nildottie, South Australia
Nildottie is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the east side of the Murray River about east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the municipal seat in Mannum. Nildottie's boundaries were created on 27 March 2003 for the "long established name" and include the sites of the Kroehns Landing Shack Site and Scrubby Flat Shack Site. On 22 December 2011, Nildottie was enlarged by the addition of land on its northern side after the locality of Greenways Landing was abolished following a request from residents and local government. The name is derived from the Aboriginal word 'ngurltartang', which means 'smoke signal hill'. County Of Albert
The County of Albert is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia on the east banks of the River Murray. It was proclaimed by Governor Richard MacDonnell in 1860 and named for Albert, Prince Consort of Queen Victoria.
