Coolship
A coolship (Anglicized version of the Dutch/Flemish koelschip) is a type of brewing vessel traditionally used in the production of beer. It is a broad, open-top, flat vessel in which wort cools. The high surface to volume ratio allows for more efficient cooling. Contemporary usage includes any open fermenter used in the production of beer, even when using modern mechanical cooling techniques. Traditionally, coolships were constructed of wood, but later were lined with iron or copper for better thermal conductivity. The word "coolship" was trademarked by Allagash Brewing Company in the United States. __NOTOC__ Allagash Brewing Company is a brewery in Portland, Maine. The brewery specializes in Belgian-style beers. History Allagash Brewing Company was founded by Rob Tod in Portland, Maine, in 1995. Tod observed that while both German and British style beers were available throughout the United States, Belgian-style beers were difficult to find. He established a small, 15-barrel brewery, and began brewing a beer modeled after a Belgian witbier, named Allagash White. The beer gets its flavor from the use of wheat in addition to barley, as well as the addition of Curaçao orange peel, coriander, and other spices. The brewery achieved certified B Corporation status in 2019 and qualified again in 2022 with a 20-point increase. Lambic
Lambic ( , ; ) is a type of beer brewed in the Pajottenland region of Belgium southwest of Brussels since the 13th century. Types of lambic beer include gueuze, kriek lambic, and framboise. Lambic differs from most other beers in that it is Brewing#Fermenting, fermented through exposure to Yeast#Ecology, wild yeasts and bacteria native to the Zenne valley, as opposed to exposure to carefully cultivated strains of Saccharomyces, brewer's yeast. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavour: dry, wiktionary:vinous, vinous, and cidery, often with a tart aftertaste. Etymology This beverage is first mentioned in 1794 as ''allambique''. Wort
Wort () is the liquid extracted from the mashing process during the brewing of beer or whisky. Wort contains the sugars, the most important being maltose and maltotriose, that will be Ethanol fermentation, fermented by the brewing yeast to produce ethanol, alcohol. Wort also contains crucial amino acids to provide nitrogen to the yeast as well as more complex proteins contributing to beer head (froth) retention and flavour. Production The first step in wort production is to obtain malt, which is made from dried, sprouting, sprouted cereal grains, including barley. Thermal Conductivity
The thermal conductivity of a material is a measure of its ability to heat conduction, conduct heat. It is commonly denoted by k, \lambda, or \kappa and is measured in W·m−1·K−1. Heat transfer occurs at a lower rate in materials of low thermal conductivity than in materials of high thermal conductivity. For instance, metals typically have high thermal conductivity and are very efficient at conducting heat, while the opposite is true for insulating materials such as mineral wool or Styrofoam.
