Cooloongup is an outer southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, the capital city of Western Australia, located within the City of Rockingham. It consists mainly of residential dwellings. History The suburb of Cooloongup, first named in 1974, is named after Lake Cooloongup. The name ''Lake Cooloongup'' was first recorded by Surveyor AC Gregory in 1843. While Landgate has noted that it is an Aboriginal name, it has also claimed that the meaning of the name is not known. An elder of the Nyungar people, the traditional Aboriginal occupants of the area, has said that ''Cooloongup'' means "place of children". It is also suggested that Cool moon lgup refers to the moon and its similarities to the white saltlakes of the same name. The Noongar word for moon was not known at the time of European settlement which led to the belief that cool moon look up was not known. Simply it could be known as the place of moon people. Rockingham General Hospital
Rockingham General Hospital is a public hospital in Rockingham, Western Australia, in the south west of the Perth Metropolitan Region. The hospital was originally known as Rockingham Kwinana District Hospital, but was renamed in 2008 during a major redevelopment. Lake Cooloongup
Lake Cooloongup, sometimes also referred to as White Lake, is a shallow saline lake in the suburb of Cooloongup, south of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. In the local Nyungar language, Cooloongup means "place of children". Overview The lake is bound in the east by Mandurah Road and in the west by the suburb of Cooloongup, with the reserve south of the lake stretching to Safety Bay Road, to the south of which Lake Walyungup is located. Like Lake Walyungup, Lake Cooloongup is thought to be drying because of reduced rainfalls. Depths of both lakes fluctuate from 0.5 to 3.5 metres, with the permanent pools of Lake Walyungup being the deepest points. Ennis Avenue
Ennis Avenue is a major road between Rockingham and its southern suburbs and is part of Australia's National Highway 1 for all of its length. It is a controlled access road and after leaving Rockingham has only four intersections (Willmott Drive, Safety Bay Road, Royal Palm Drive and Port Kennedy Drive)—the alternative route is Read Street and Warnbro Sound Avenue which runs roughly parallel to and west of Ennis Avenue. The Kwinana Freeway was built to Safety Bay Road in 2002, which means that Kwinana Freeway traffic going to Mandurah and the South West of Western Australia from Perth enters Ennis Avenue near its halfway point (7.5 km) at Safety Bay Road until the extension further south in 2009. Rockingham Lakes Regional Park
Rockingham Lakes Regional Park is a conservation park approximately south of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Rockingham. The park, established in 1997, covers a non-continuous area of and occupies approximately 16 percent of the area of the City of Rockingham. In Western Australia, regional parks consist of areas of land that have been identified as having outstanding conservation, landscape and recreation values. The park contains remnants of the once widespread Swan Coastal Plain and two threatened ecological communities, Thrombolites and Sedgelands. Lake Richmond
Lake Richmond (Aboriginal Australian name: Naragebup) is a freshwater lake in Rockingham, Western Australia. It is approximately , with an area of , and is deep in the centre. It is believed to be named after the London borough. It is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. Overview The lake is less than from the coast, having separated from the ocean at Cockburn Sound within the last 4,000 years. The shallow waters within about of the edges of the lake are home to thrombolites, estimated to be about six million years old. The internal structure of the thrombolites is believed to be unique in the world. Lake Walyungup
Lake Walyungup is a shallow saline lake in the suburbs of Warnbro and Port Kennedy, located south of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. In the local Nyungar language, Walyungup means "place where Noongars talk". Overview The lake is popular with land sailors, and is bound in the north by Safety Bay Road, in the east by Mandurah Road and in the west by the Mandurah railway line, with the Warnbro railway station bordering the north-western corner of the lake. North of Safety Bay Road, Lake Cooloongup is located. The lake, situated on an Holocene beach ridge, was once connected to the sea and was formed approximately 6,000 to 7,000 years ago.
