Contagious Diseases Acts
The Contagious Diseases Acts (CD Acts) were originally passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1864 (27 & 28 Vict. c. 85), with alterations and additions made in 1866 (29 & 30 Vict. c. 35) and 1869 (32 & 33 Vict. c. 96). In 1862, a committee had been established to inquire into venereal disease (i.e. sexually transmitted infections) in the armed forces. On the committee's recommendation the first Contagious Diseases Act was passed. The legislation allowed police officers to arrest women suspected of being prostitutes in certain ports and army towns. Since there was no set definition of prostitution within the Act, the question was left to the police officer’s discretion, and women could be arrested even if there was no actual evidence of prostitition. The women were then subjected to compulsory physical examinations for venereal disease. Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act
The Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act is a series of Acts of Parliament of the United Kingdom to deal with the possibility of the accrual of economic harm or intra-species contamination. In 1892, the local authorities were not making sufficient use of powers to combat animal diseases so the Act introduced central control over the slaughter of infected animals and the payment of compensation. The 1893 Act transferred from local authorities to the Board of Agriculture the responsibility for wiping out swine fever. It was followed by the 20th-century series notation Diseases of Animals Act. "Contagious" is a song by the Isley Brothers. It was released as a single from their 2001 album ''Eternal''. The song was written and produced by R. Kelly, who was also featured on the song, and also features vocals by R&B singer Chanté Moore. ''Contagious'' is a science fiction thriller novel by Scott Sigler. It is the sequel to Sigler's '' Infected'', and like its predecessor was released in both podcast and print versions. Plot summary Perry Dawsey and Margaret Montoya attempt to stop an alien infestation of "hatchlings". Dawsey, former Michigan linebacker, has survived the events in ''Infected'', but remains telepathically linked to the aliens. His insight into the aliens' behavior helps the government hunt them down. Dawsey is forced to participate. Reception Critical reception for ''Contagious'' was mostly positive, with author J. C. ''Contagious'' is the eighth studio album by American heavy metal band Y&T, released in 1987 through Geffen Records, which, like their previous label A&M Records, is now a subsidiary of Interscope Records (itself owned by Universal Music Group). ''Contagious'' is a 1997 American television film directed by Joe Napolitano and starring Lindsay Wagner as a doctor trying to prevent a cholera epidemic following an outbreak. Plot A plane where shrimp tainted with cholera was served, arrives from South America to Los Angeles. Soon after, the first patient dies from the disease.
