Conservative Party (Armenia)
The Conservative Party () is a political party in Armenia. It was founded in 1991. History The Conservative Party was founded in 1991. The current charter of the party was adopted during the 5th party congress on 1 November 2003. The Conservative Party had been a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), and some members participated in the 2012 Armenian parliamentary elections under the ANC's electoral list. The party opted to leave the ANC in 2013. Several party members participated in the 2013 Yerevan City Council election, under the Heritage party's Barev Yerevan alliance. The alliance came in third place, winning 8.48% of the vote. The Conservative Party confirmed that it would participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections as part of the Free Homeland Alliance. Following the election, the Free Homeland Alliance received just 0.32% of the popular vote, failing to win any seats in the National Assembly. Neoconservatism
Neoconservatism (colloquially neocon) is a political movement which began in the United States during the 1960s among liberal hawks who became disenchanted with the increasingly pacifist Democratic Party along with the growing New Left and counterculture of the 1960s. Neoconservatives typically advocate the unilateral promotion of democracy and interventionism in international relations together with a militaristic and realist philosophy of "peace through strength". Armenian Constructive Party
The Armenian Constructive Party, sometimes known as the Armenian Construction Party () is a liberal political party in Armenia. The party was established in July 2018 and is currently led by Andrias Ghukasyan. History The party was established prior to the 2018 Armenian parliamentary election, with the intent to participate and support the goals of the 2018 Armenian revolution. However, the party ultimately did not participate and does not have representation within the National Assembly. The party currently acts as an extra-parliamentary force. During the 2020–2021 Armenian protests, Andrias Ghukasyan called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign and for Armenia to recognize the independence of Artsakh. Union For National Self-Determination
Union for National Self-Determination () is an Armenian political party. It was founded in 1987 by Paruyr Hayrikyan, a Soviet dissident seeking independence for Armenia. History The party was founded in 1987 as the successor of the defunct National United Party. In late 1989, a number of members of the executive council of the party, including Movses Gorgisyan and Ashot Navasardyan, founded the Army of Independence, an armed group aimed at achieving Armenia's independence which engaged in violent clashes with the Soviet authorities in the Armenian SSR and the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. In February 1990, the Army of Independence broke off from the Union of National Self-Determination, and several of the former's members founded the Republican Party of Armenia. Democratic Homeland Party
The Democratic Homeland Party () is an Armenian political party. The Chairman of the party is Petros Makeyan. History The party was founded in 1988. The party withdrew its participation in the 2003 Armenian parliamentary election, over concerns of electoral corruption. The party subsequently joined the Armenian National Congress and participated in an electoral bloc with them in the 2012 Armenian parliamentary election. The Armenian National Congress won 7 seats in the National Assembly. Prior to the 2012 election, the Democratic Homeland Party feared that the election would be rigged and proclaimed that the Republican Party of Armenia was a criminal organization. Nikol Pashinyan
Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan (born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician who is serving as the 16th and current Prime Minister of Armenia, prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War
