Conny Waßmuth
Conny Waßmuth (also spelled Wassmuth; born 4 April 1983 in Halle an der Saale) is a German sprint canoer who has competed since 2005. She won a gold medal in the K-4 500 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Waßmuth also won eight medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with five golds (K-1 4 x 200 m: 2009, 2010; K-4 200 m: 2007, 2009; K-4 500 m: 2005, 2007) and two silvers (K-4 200 m and K-4 500 m: both 2006). In June 2015, she competed in the inaugural European Games, for Germany in canoe sprint, more specifically, Women's K-4 500m with Verena Hantl, Franziska Weber, and Tina Dietze. She earned a silver medal. Canoe Sprint
Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race in specially designed sprint canoes or sprint kayaks on calm water over a short distance. Prior to November 2008, canoe sprint was known as flatwater racing. The term is still in use today but is often used as a hypernym for both canoe marathon and canoe sprint. Similarly, the term 'canoeing' is used to describe both kayaking and canoeing. The sport is governed by the International Canoe Federation (ICF), which recognises four official distances and three boat classes in which athletes can compete. Competitors may race over 200, 500, 1000, and 5000 metres in crews consisting of one, two, or four athletes, across either eight or nine lanes marked by buoys. Career She was Olympic Champion at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the K-2 500 metres with Tina Dietze. At the same Olympics, she also won silver in the K-4 500 m. Verena of Zurzach, also known as Saint Verena ( 260 – ), was an early Christian consecrated virgin and hermit. She is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches. Canoe Sprint At The 2015 European Games
Canoeing was contested at the 2015 European Games between 14 and 16 June 2015. No canoe slalom events were held in Baku. A total of fifteen medal events were held, three for men only in canoe, and 12 events in kayak across both genders, all on flat water. Despite the sport being described in official literature as ''canoe sprint'', in line with Olympic practice, a canoe marathon, a 5000-metre non-Olympic event, was included for each gender. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) is restricted to one boat per event, a maximum of fifteen boats, and therefore a maximum of 26 qualified athletes.
