Alanna Connors
Alanna Connors (1956–2013) was a Hong Kong-born American astronomer and statistician known for her introduction and advocacy of Bayesian statistics in high-energy astronomy, and for her early use of the Python (programming language), Python programming language in astronomy. Connors was the daughter of an airplane pilot for Pan Am; she was born in Hong Kong, where her father was based, on September 25 1956. She moved to Greenwich, Connecticut as a child. She majored in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 1978, and completed a Ph.D. in astronomy and physics in 1988 at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her doctoral research, conducted at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, concerned X-ray transients. Her later career included work as a researcher at the University of New Hampshire Space Science Center and as visiting faculty at Wellesley College, working with data from the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. John Connors VC (October 1830 – 29 January 1857) was born in Duagh, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland and was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details Connors was approximately 24 years old, and a private in the 3rd Regiment of Foot (later The East Kent Regiment (The Buffs)), British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 8 September 1855 at Sebastopol in the Crimea, Private Connors showed conspicuous gallantry at the assault on the Redan in personal conflict with the enemy. Charles Thomas "Stompin' Tom" Connors, Order of Canada, OC (February 9, 1936 – March 6, 2013) was a Canadian country music, country and folk music, folk singer-songwriter. Focusing his career exclusively on his native Canada, he is credited with writing more than 300 songs and has released four dozen albums, with total sales of nearly four million copies. Jeffrey David Newfield (12 May 1952 – 18 December 2016), known as Scruff Connors, was a Canadian radio broadcaster known for conducting controversial on-air practical jokes. Ronald Gerard Connors (November 1, 1915 – November 27, 2002) was an American bishop in the Catholic Church. He served as the second bishop of the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic from 1977 to 1991. Biography Connors was born in Brooklyn, New York. He professed religious vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, more commonly known as the Redemptorists, and was ordained a priest on June 22, 1941. Pope Paul VI appointed Connors as Titular Bishop of ''Equizetum'' and Coadjutor Bishop of San Juan de la Maguana on April 24, 1976. Norman Connors (born March 1, 1947) is an American jazz drummer, composer, arranger, and producer who has led a number of influential jazz and R&B groups. He also achieved several big R&B hits of the day, especially with love ballads. He is possibly best known for the 1976 hit, " You Are My Starship" on which lead vocals were sung by Michael Henderson. Noel Connors (born 5 May 1990) is an Irish hurler who played for Waterford Senior Championship club Passage anformerly playedfor and captained the Waterford senior hurling team. He was usually deployed as a corner-back but could also be deployed as a full-back or as a centre-back. Connors began his hurling career with the Passage club, with whom he won Waterford Championship medals at intermediate level in 2007 and at senior level in 2013. Mervin James Connors (January 23, 1914 – January 8, 2006) was an American professional baseball player who played 52 games as an infielder in the Major Leagues from 1937 to 1938 for the Chicago White Sox. Hit three home runs in successive at-bats and just missed a fourth in one game in 1938. He accumulated 400 home runs with 1,629 RBI during his career in the minor leagues. Mark Connors (born 17 May 1971, Brisbane) is an Australian rugby union footballer. He is currently the Queensland Reds third most capped player ever, playing 134 games for the side. He has played for Australia 20 times, including their victory in the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
