Conley from ''O′Conghaile'' or Ó Conghalaigh (“hound valiant”) is a surname of Irish or Manx origin. The anglicized forms Conneely, Connealy, and Cunneely emerged due to the loss of the "gh" sound, which lengthened the second syllable of Conghal. In Connacht, these forms are often shortened from McNeilly, derived from Mac Conghaile. Another possible origin is the West Cork name Mac Coingheallaigh or Ó Coingheallaigh, meaning "faithful to pledges." Historically, O'Connolly was a principal name of County Monaghan. Conley is also used as a male given name, anglicized from Old Irish Conláed, meaning "constant fire," which combines cunnail ("prudent, constant") and áed ("fire"). Alternatively, it could be a compound name from Old Irish cond ("intellect," "mind," or "king") or cenn ("head, chief") and ley, an Anglo-Norman term for "field, meadow, or forest clearing." Conley–Maass Building
The Conley–Maass–Downs Building, also called the Maass and McAndrew Company Building, is one of the oldest remaining commercial buildings in Rochester, Minnesota. History Originally built in 1900 by the Rochester Woolen Mill Co to produce pants made from wool fabric from their mill. The woolen mill company went bankrupt in 1903, and the factory was purchased by the Conley Camera Company (established by Kerry Conley and his brother Fred) in 1904. The Conley company and the building were featured in the 1908 Sears catalog. They remained until 1909 when they moved to a larger facility on the north side of Rochester. Maass & McAndrew Plumbing and Heating purchased the building in 1910 and occupied it until 1955. Maass & McAndrew did much work for the Mayo Clinic and one of the family members, Frederic Maass, worked with Henry Stanley Plummer in designing the Plummer Building and later became Chief Engineer at Mayo. Conley's Ford Covered Bridge
Conley's Ford Covered Bridge was built in 1906 and crosses Big Raccoon Creek on County Road 550 East close to County Road 720 South, in Parke County, IN. The bridge is a single span Burr Arch Truss structure. The Conley's Ford Covered Bridge was built by J. Lawrence Van Fossen. History Unlike the other covered bridges in Parke County, Conley's Ford was made of white pine, and not poplar. Conley is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Clayton County and DeKalb County, Georgia United States. It is at Atlanta's southeast corner, 7.98 miles from downtown. The population was 6,680 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. History Originally known as Moccasin Gap, the unincorporated community was officially named "Conley" in 1867 after the family who owned the land. The community was home to many farms, however now it is known for its manufacturing industry. Geography Conley is located along the northern border of Clayton County at (33.640142, -84.342255). It is bordered by the city of Forest Park to the south and west, the city of Atlanta to the northwest, and by unincorporated land in DeKalb County to the north.
