Congleton Town Football Club is an association football club based in Congleton, Cheshire, England. They currently play in the and are full members of the Cheshire County Football Association. The club have played in a number of regional leagues in the Cheshire area. History The club was formed in 1901 and joined the Crewe and District League, and were crowned champions in their first three seasons from 1901–02 to 1903–04. In 1904–05 they finished in fifth place. They then joined the North Staffordshire and District League in the 1905–06 season finishing in third place. Up until the outbreak of World War I their highest league placing came in 1914–15 when they were runners-up. When the league resumed after the war Congleton spent one last season in the league, 1919–20 finishing as league champions. Richard Duffy
Richard Michael Duffy (born 30 August 1985) is a Welsh former professional footballer who is the player-manager at club Congleton Town. A versatile player who can play either on the right or at the centre of defence, he won 13 caps for Wales between 2005 and 2008. He is the younger brother of Robert Duffy. He began his career at Swansea City, making his debut as a 16-year-old in December 2001, before winning a six-figure sum move to Premier League side Portsmouth in January 2004. He never broke into the first-team picture at Fratton Park and instead enjoyed numerous loan moves at Burnley, Coventry City, and former club Swansea. Crewe () is a railway town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. The 2024–25 FA Cup qualifying rounds opened the 144th edition of the FA Cup, the world's oldest association football single knockout competition, organised by The Football Association, the governing body for the sport in England. 653 teams in the 5th to 9th tier of English football competed across six rounds for 32 spots in the 2024-25 FA Cup first round proper. Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. Louis Dodds
Louis Bartholomew Dodds (born 8 October 1986) is an English former footballer who played either as a midfielder or as a striker who is now a coach at club Congleton Town. After many years at the Leicester City Academy, Dodds turned professional at the club in 2006. He spent the 2006–07 season on loan at Conference side Northwich Victoria and League Two club Rochdale. He then spent the 2007–08 campaign on loan at Lincoln City. He turned down a new deal with Leicester to sign for Port Vale in July 2008. Matthew Rhys Gillam (born 4 October 1998) is an English footballer who plays for Northern Premier League side Glossop North End. Career Early life Gillam was born in Bexley, Kent but moved with his family to Congleton, Cheshire, when he was only a few months old.
