Comércio (Salvador)
Comércio (, ''trade'') is a neighborhood of Salvador, Bahia, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The district served as the port of entry to Salvador from the beginning of the colonial period and later became home to the first planned business district in Brazil. It remains a financial center in the state of Bahia, as well as a municipal transportation hub and tourist destination. Comércio is home to numerous national heritage sites dating from the early colonial period to the 20th century. Comércio as a whole was listed as a national historic district of Brazil by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage in 2008. Caramuru Building
The Caramuru Building (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Edifício Caramuru'') is an office building in Salvador, Bahia, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It was designed by the architect Paulo Antunes Ribeiro (1905–1973) for Prudência Capitalização, an insurance company. Construction began on the structure in 1946 and it opened in 1951. The Caramuru Building was one of the first Modern architecture, Modernist buildings constructed in the Northeast Region, Brazil, Northeast Region of Brazil, closely following the construction of Hotel de Bahia. The Historic Center (American English, US) or Centre (British English, UK) () of Salvador de Bahia in Brazil, also known as the (Portuguese language, Portuguese for "Pillory") or Pelo, is a historic neighborhood in western Salvador, Bahia. The Palace of the Commercial Association of Bahia (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Palácio da Associação Comercial da Bahia)'' is a building that houses the headquarters of the Commercial Association of Bahia (ACB), which had its inauguration on January 28, 1817. It is located in the Comércio (Salvador), Comércio neighborhood in the municipality of Salvador, Bahia, Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia in Brazil. Currently, the palace, which used to house public and private activities, does not provide any services other than those of the ACB itself. It houses a library, a pinacotheca, 19th century furniture, and other pieces that represent an invaluable historical and artistic collection.
