Community Health Systems
Community Health Systems (CHS) is a Fortune 500 company based in Franklin, Tennessee. It was the largest provider of general hospital healthcare services in the United States in terms of number of acute care facilities. In 2014, CHS had around 200 hospitals, but the number had declined to around 85 in 2021. In August 2015, the company announced plans to spin off 38 hospitals and its management and consulting subsidiary, Quorum Health Resources, into a new publicly traded company called Quorum Health Corporation. The company completed the spinoff of Quorum Health Corporation on April 29, 2016. Quorum owns or leases hospitals across 16 states, primarily in cities or counties with populations of 50,000 or less. In April 2020 Quorum declared bankruptcy and is no longer trading on the NYSE. A for-profit corporation is an organization which aims to earn profit through its operations and is concerned with its own interests, rather than the interests of the public (nonprofit corporation). Structure A for-profit corporation is usually an organization operating in the private sector which sets aims that eventually help the organization itself. This kind of a company makes shares of ownership available to the general public. Health Management Associates was a for-profit corporation which operated hospitals and other health care facilities in the southern United States. It was headquartered at 5811 Pelican Bay Blvd. in North Naples, Florida. Background Health Management Associates (HMA) was an organization that provided people, processes, capital, and subject matter expertise to hospitals and physician practices per their individual needs or governing requirements. AdventHealth Lake Wales is a non-profit hospital campus in Lake Wales, Florida, United States owned by AdventHealth. It was purchased from Community Health Systems in May 2019. History 1928–1999 In 1928, June Hobbs and a nurse opened Lake Wales' first hospital; it had nine beds and was in a two-story apartment. About one year later it closed. AdventHealth Ocala is a non-profit hospital campus in Ocala, Florida, United States that is operated by AdventHealth. The medical facility is owned by the Marion County Hospital District. It is a tertiary and primary stroke center that has multiple specialties. The Salem Medical Center is a hospital in Salem County, New Jersey located at the Pointers in Mannington Township. It was founded as the Memorial Hospital of Salem County.
