Douvres-la-Délivrande
Douvres-la-Délivrande () is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. The name was simply Douvres until 1961, when it was expanded to refer to the basilica Notre-Dame de la Délivrande ("Our Lady of Deliverance"), located in the town, a site of pilgrimage. History World War II During the Second World War, Douvres-la-Délivrande was the site of an important German air-detection radar installation, part of the strategic Atlantic Wall defences. Completed in the autumn of 1943, the station was split into two zones by the road from Douvres to Bény-sur-Mer; and heavily fortified with bunkers, machineguns and minefields. The Northern zone held a large Siemens 'Wasserman' long-range radar and associated structures. The larger Southern zone had two intermediate-range Freya and two short-range Würzburg Riese radars; as well as command and infirmary bunkers, garages and artillery placements. Anisy
Anisy () is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region of north-western France. Geography Anisy is located some 8 km north by north-west of Caen and 4 km south of Douvres-la-Délivrande. It can be accessed by the D79 road from Caen passing through the west of the commune and continuing to Anguerny. The village can be accessed by the D220 road from Mathieu in the east passing through the village and the commune and continuing to Villons-les-Buissons in the south-west. The D220A branches off the D220 in the village and goes south to Cambes-en-Plaine. The D141 from Mathieu to Anguerny also passes through the north-eastern tip of the commune. Basly () is a Communes of France, commune in the Calvados (department), Calvados Departments of France, department in the Normandy (administrative region), Normandy Regions of France, region of north-western France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Basliens'' or ''Basliennes''. Geography Basly is located some 6 km south-east of Courseulles-sur-Mer and 10 km north-west of Caen. Access to the commune is by the D79 road from Bény-sur-Mer in the north-east which passes through the village and continues south-east to Colomby-sur-Thaon. The D83 comes from Douvres-la-Délivrande in the north-east through the village then south-west to Thaon. Bernières-sur-Mer (, literally ''Bernières on Sea''), in the arrondissement of Caen, is a commune in the Calvados department of Normandy, in northwestern France. It is part of the canton of Courseulles-sur-Mer. It lies on the English Channel coast, 3 km east of Courseulles-sur-Mer, and 17 km north of Caen. Bernières-sur-Mer is one of the oldest towns of the Côte de Nacre. Courseulles-sur-Mer
Courseulles-sur-Mer (, ), commonly known as ''Courseulles'', is a commune in the Calvados department, Normandy, northwestern France. Until 1957, the town's name was simply ''Courseulles''. It lies 3 km west of Bernières-sur-Mer and 18 km north of Caen. It is a popular tourist destination not only with locals but also with international visitors who come to tour the Normandy landing beaches.
