Rambervillers
Rambervillers () is a Communes of France, commune in the Vosges (department), Vosges Departments of France, department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Inhabitants are called ''Rambuvetais''. Geography The town is built on the banks of the Mortagne (river), Mortagne, some to the west of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, Saint-Dié and to the north-east of Épinal. The river flows from :fr:Haut Jacques, Haut Jacques and the forests to the south-east of the town; where it passes through Rambervillers it has been channeled, but the work was done without sufficient planning for the volume of water unleashed in stormy weather, which gives rise to flooding. Notably, during 2006 the town centre was under two meters of water after an outbreak of torrential rain. Ortoncourt
Ortoncourt () is a Communes of France, commune in the Vosges (department), Vosges Departments of France, department in Grand Est in northeastern France. History There is a record of a latinate version of the name, Ortonis curte, recorded in the eleventh century when the village was part of the bailiwick of Châtel-sur-Moselle. In terms of ecclesiastical administration its church, dedicated to Saint Urban, came under the parish of Moyemont. Under the secular arrangements established in the wake of the French Revolution, Ortoncourt in 1790 became part of the canton of Fauconcourt in the :fr:District français, district of Rambervillers until 1800 when the modern administrative structure was introduced. Nossoncourt
Nossoncourt () is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. History Nossoncourt was a lordship and the local capital or a territory which also included the modern communes of Anglemont, Bazien, Sainte-Barbe, Ménil-sur-Belvitte, Ménarmont et Xaffévillers. According to a title document dated 1345 it was one of the earliest fiefs belonging to the Bishopric of Metz. The Thirty Years War brought destruction to many villages in the contested territories between France and The Empire. Nossoncourt was destroyed by a Swedish army in 1635, the Swedes being at that point allies of the French and enemies of the Dukes of Lorraine. During the twentieth century wars the village was again the scene of violent fighting notably in 1914 and in the Autumn/Fall of 1944. Moyemont
Moyemont () is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Geography Moyemont is a rural commune positioned between Charmes to the west and Rambervillers some to the east. To the south of the village, more than half of the commune's 1,230 hectares are covered by forest (''le forêt de Rambervillers''). Two small streams, the Habu and the ForePrays ''(le devant Prays)'', both tributaries of the Mortagne flow towards the north-east, while in the south of the commune other streams flow to the south and south-east, reflecting commune's modestly elevated topography. The village itself is at the confluence of several small roads, with a lay-out in an irregular star shape resulting. The least minor of the roads crossing the village is the Route Departmentale RD32. Ménil-sur-Belvitte
Ménil-sur-Belvitte is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Inhabitants are called Ménilois. Geography The village is equidistant between Rambervillers and Baccarat, approximately from each. The Belvitte which flows through the village is a tributary to the Mortagne, which itself flows into the Meurthe. Ménarmont
Ménarmont () is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Geography The village is on the northern edge of the Vosges, on the departmental frontier with the département of Meurthe et Moselle. The countryside here is less densely populated than that closer to Épinal (some 30 kilometres / 20 miles to the south-south-west), and since 1977 the local landfill site has welcomed 150,000 tonnes annually of domestic and industrial waste. Plans to extend the site after it became full in 2005 were hotly contested by neighbouring communes, notably Bazien to the north-west.
