The group of dialects Comasco-Lecchese is part of the Western Lombard language and is spoken in the province of Como and province of Lecco in Italy, especially around the capital cities and north of them. In other parts of this provinces, other Western Lombard varieties are spoken ( Brianzoeu, Bustocco and Legnanese dialects). Vallassinese Dialect
Vallassinese is variety of the Western Lombard language spoken in the Vallassina valley of Italy (about 6,000 speakers). It belongs to the Comasco-Lecchese group and it has many subdialects. Asso subdialect resembles to Canzés ( Brianzoeu group), but it has some characteristics from Valbrona dialect. Valbrona subdialect has influences from Lecchese (Comasco-Lecchese group) In Sormano, Caglio, Rezzago there are influences from dialect of ''Pian del Tivano'' (north), which has isolated characteristics (like the presence of ''ò'' instead of stressed ''a'' in all closed syllables, phenomenon that you can sometimes see in Northern Brianzoeu but only in syllables closed by ''l'') and from Laghée. Lecco
Lecco (, , ; ) is a city of approximately 47,000 inhabitants in Lombardy, Northern Italy, north of Milan. It lies at the end of the south-eastern branch of Lake Como (the branch is named ''Branch of Lecco'' / ''Ramo di Lecco''). The Bergamasque Alps, Bergamo Alps rise to the north and east, cut through by the Valsassina of which Lecco marks the southern end. The lake, narrows to form the Adda (river), River Adda, so bridges were built to improve road communications with Como and Milan. There are four bridges crossing the river Adda in Lecco: the Azzone Visconti Bridge (1336–1338), the Kennedy Bridge (1956), the Alessandro Manzoni Bridge (1985), and a railroad bridge. Lecchese Dialect
Lecchese is a dialect of Western Lombard language spoken in the city and suburbs of Lecco (Lombardy). Characteristics It has the characteristic, in contrast with the other Comasco-Lecchese dialects, to be influenced by Brianzöö, Valsassinese, Valtellinese and Bergamasque (an Eastern Lombard variety spoken in and around the city of Bergamo). Grammar In the use of ''vergót'' (coming from Eastern Lombard) instead of Comasco ''quajcòss'' (="something"). Another characteristic is the presence of close "e" instead of "i", and of close "o" instead of "u"; the use of suffixes "-om", "-on" instead of "-amm", "-ã"; the use of suffix "-én" instead of "-ĩ"; the use of article "ul". Comasco (), anglicized as Comasque, is a dialect belonging to the Western branch of Lombard language, spoken in the city and suburbs of Como. Comasco is part of the Comasco-Lecchese dialect group. History The Comasco dialect evolved as a consequence of its origins and influences. In ancient times, the Lake Como area was inhabited by Orobi, Leponzi, and Etruscan tribes. As with the rest of the Po Valley, the area was subject to invasions by the Gauls. In Roman times, the Latin spoken in the Lake Como area was influenced by the Celtic substratum, contributing to the phonetic and lexical formation of today's dialect. In the early Middle Ages, the area was occupied by the Lombards, who probably spoke a dialect of the Saxon language and brought a further, albeit small, lexical contribution. Bustocco and Legnanese (natively and ) are two dialects of Western Lombard, spoken respectively in the cities of Busto Arsizio (Province of Varese) and Legnano (Province of Milan), Lombardy.
