Comarnic
Comarnic () is a town in Prahova County, Muntenia, Romania, with a population of 11,106 as of 2021. Four villages are administered by the town: Ghioșești, Podu Lung, Poiana, and Posada. Geography The town is situated in the southern foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, close to the interface between the Southern Carpathians and the Eastern Carpathians, at an altitude of . It lies towards the southern end of the Prahova Valley, along the Prahova River, in the main on the left bank, but with some of the component villages on the right bank of the river. Comarnic is located in the western part of Prahova County, northwest of the county seat, Ploiești. It is crossed by national road DN1 (part of European route E60), which starts in Bucharest and goes north towards Brașov and on to the border with Hungary near Oradea; the partially built A3 motorway will also go through the town. A3 Motorway (Romania)
The A3 motorway () is a partially built motorway in Romania, planned to connect Bucharest with the Transylvania region and the north-western part of the country. It will be 596 km long and will run along the route: Ploiești, Brașov, Făgăraș, Sighișoara, Târgu Mureș, Cluj-Napoca, Zalău and Oradea, connecting with Hungary's M4 motorway (Hungary), M4 motorway near Borș, Bihor, Borș. As of September 2023, there are roughly in service: the Bucharest – Ploiești motorway (62.5 km), the Râșnov – Cristian, Brașov, Cristian segment (6.3 km), the Târgu Mureș – Chețani segment (36.1 km), the Câmpia Turzii – Nădășelu segment (61.2 km) and the Biharia – Borș, Bihor, Borș segment (5.4 km). David Popescu
David Popescu (25 May 1886 – 11 April 1955) was a Romanian general during World War II and Interior Minister in 1940. Biography He was born in 1886 in Comarnic, Prahova County, Kingdom of Romania, the son of Iulian (a priest) and Maria. He attended primary school in his hometown, and then went to the in Ploiești. He started military service in 1905, advancing to sergeant by 1906. After attending the Military School for Infantry and Cavalry Officers, he graduated in 1908 with the rank of second lieutenant; after further studies at the Special Infantry School, he was promoted to captain in 1912. In 1913 he fought with the 7th Regiment Vânători in the Second Balkan War. Once Romania entered World War I on the side of the Allies in August 1916, Popescu fought in Dobruja as a battalion commander of the 40th Infantry Regiment. Ion Panțuru
Ion Panţuru (11 September 1934 – 17 January 2016) was a Romanian bobsledder. He competed in two-man and four-man events at the 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics and served as the Olympic flag bearer for Romania in 1964 and 1972. Panţuru took up bobsleigh at the age of 24, after playing as a football goalkeeper at the Divizia B-level. At the 1968 Games he won a bronze medal with brakeman Nicolae Neagoe, which remains Romania's only medal at the Winter Olympics. At the same Olympics he was also close to a bronze medal in the four-man competition, placing fourth. At the FIBT World Championships he won two medals in the two-man event, together with another brakeman Dumitru Focșeneanu, with a silver in 1969 and a bronze in 1973. Georgeta Năpăruș
Georgeta Năpăruș (23 October 1930 – 9 July 1997) was a Romanian modernist painter. Early life and education Born in 1930 to Angela Năpăruș (née Pădurice) and Vasile Năpăruș (b. 1901) in Comarnic, a small town on the main thoroughfare between Bucharest and Transylvania, Geta (the short form of Georgeta) lived her youth in one of the most tormented eras for the country, and Europe in general. The valley was already industrial, but the family owned a house on the hills in Secăria, where some traits of ancestral rural life were still alive.
