Colonization (series)
''Colonization'' is a trilogy of alternate history books by American writer Harry Turtledove. It is a series continuation of the situation set up in the ''Worldwar'' tetralogy, projecting the situation between humanity and The Race (the bipedal lizard-like invaders and settlers from ''Worldwar'') nearly twenty years afterward, in the mid-1960s. The Race has settled and plans to colonize nearly half the surface of the Earth, including Africa, Australia, China, southern Asia, Mexico, Central America, South America, Spain, Portugal, and Poland (prewar Poland and East Prussia). The United States, Canada, the Soviet Union, the Greater German Reich (Germany and the territories that it occupied during World War II), the United Kingdom, and Japan are the only other powers when the Race's colonization fleet of 80–100 million settlers arrives. East Prussia
East Prussia ; german: Ostpreißen, label= Low Prussian; pl, Prusy Wschodnie; lt, Rytų Prūsija was a province of the Kingdom of Prussia from 1773 to 1829 and again from 1878 (with the Kingdom itself being part of the German Empire from 1871); following World War I it formed part of the Weimar Republic's Free State of Prussia, until 1945. Homeward Bound (Turtledove Novel)
''Homeward Bound'' (2004) is a science fiction and alternate history novel by Harry Turtledove. It is the eighth and final work in his ''Worldwar series'' fictional universe. It follows the events of the Colonization trilogy and gives some closure to the storylines. ''Homeward Bound'' begins in 1972 and then flashes forward to 1977, 1982, 1984, 1994, 2012, and finally 2031, when the American starship '' Admiral Peary'' arrives at Tau Ceti and Home, the homeworld of The Race. Title ''Homeward Bound'' has multiple meanings in the book. It is a pun in that the Race's home planet is called Home, and many characters are headed there. For characters that are members of the Race, such as Ttomalss, Atvar, and Straha, they are headed home after the failed conquest of Earth. For Kassquit, it is her cultural home although not her biological one. Aftershocks
In seismology, an aftershock is a smaller earthquake that follows a larger earthquake, in the same area of the main shock, caused as the displaced crust adjusts to the effects of the main shock. Large earthquakes can have hundreds to thousands of instrumentally detectable aftershocks, which steadily decrease in magnitude and frequency according to a consistent pattern. "Second Contact" is the series premiere of ''Star Trek: Lower Decks''. In the episode, characters on the USS ''Cerritos'', one of the "least important ships in Starfleet," must fight off a giant spider monster and a disease that has infected the crew of the ship, all while trying to make second contact with the people on the planet below. The episode received mixed reviews from critics. Plot D'Vana Tendi, an ensign who is new to Starfleet, arrives on the USS ''Cerritos'' and is immediately met by fellow ensigns Bradward "Brad" Boimler and Beckett Mariner, who give her the full tour of the lower decks of the ship.
