Coalition Démocratique–Montréal Écologique
Coalition Démocratique–Montréal Écologique (English: Democratic Coalition–Ecology Montreal) was a municipal political party that existed from 1994 to 1998 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The party was initially led by Yolande Cohen, who was also its candidate for mayor in the 1994 municipal election. Origins As its name implies, the party was formed by a merger of two pre-existing political parties: the Democratic Coalition and Ecology Montreal. These groups had a history of co-operation prior to the merger. Both parties were formed as breakaway groups from the left wing of the governing Montreal Citizens' Movement (MCM) in late 1989, and they had refrained from running candidates against one another in the mayoral contest and most council races of the 1990 municipal election. Dimitri Roussopoulos
Dimitrios I. Roussopoulos (born 1936) is a Canadian political activist and publisher. Early life Roussopoulos studied philosophy, politics, and economics at several Montreal and London universities. He has remained institutionally independent apart from teaching two years in the late 1960s at a progressive college. Career Roussopoulos’s political and peace activism began in London, England. He founded in 1959 the Combined Universities Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and organized the first post-war student demonstration in Ottawa. He founded and edited Canada's first quarterly peace research journal, '' Our Generation'', in 1961. Its first issue gained a circulation of three thousand and carried a preface by Bertrand Russell. Between 2001 and 2013 it formed the official opposition on Montreal City Council. Pierre Bourque (born 29 May 1942) is a Canadian businessman and politician in Quebec. He founded the Vision Montreal political party and served as mayor of Montreal from 1994 to 2001. Background He was director of the Montreal Botanical Gardens from 1980 to 1994. The Montreal Urban Community (MUC) (, , CUM) was a regional government in Quebec, Canada, that covered all municipalities located on the Island of Montreal and the islands of L'Île-Dorval and Île Bizard from January 1970 (when it was created from the former Jacques-Cartier County) until the end of December 2001. These municipalities were merged into the megacity of Montreal on January 1, 2002. After the partial demergers of 2006, a successor organization was formed, the Urban agglomeration of Montreal. History The supra-municipal level of government provided public transit service and police services. The MUC was first succeeded by Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC). Marvin Rotrand (born 1951) is a former Canadian politician, last sitting as an independent. He previously served as a member of Montreal City Council, representing the district of Snowdon. Rotrand served on Montreal city council from 1982 until 2021, and was its dean for several years; he worked full-time in his duties. Rotrand was serving B’Nai Brith Canada as its national director of the League of Human Rights.
