Clémence Aïssa Baré (born c. 1959) is a Nigerien physician specializing in parasitology and HIV/AIDS and former First Lady of Niger from 1996 to 1999 during the tenure of her husband, president and military ruler Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara. Since 1999, Baré and her children have campaigned for the prosecution of those responsible for the assassination of her husband during the 1999 Nigerien coup d'état. Biography Clémence Aïssa Baré, a physician, specializes in parasitology and HIV/AIDS treatments. She was the chief physician of a private medical clinic in Niger and a former academic and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Niamey. Baré was married to Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara, a Nigerien military officer, with whom she had three children. In 1996, Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara and other military officers overthrew President Mahamane Ousmane, Niger's first democratically elected president.
