Clovers (rugby Union)
The Clovers are an Irish women's regional rugby union team representing the provinces of Connacht and Munster. Founded in 2023, the team competes in the Celtic Challenge, the international competition between Scottish, Welsh and Irish regional teams. They are funded by the IRFU. History The IRFU announced the creation of the Clovers and Wolfhounds women's teams in December 2023. They replaced a Combined Provinces team, which competed in and won the inaugural Celtic Challenge season in 2023. With only two places available for Irish teams in the competition, the IRFU opted to merge its provinces: the Clovers represent the provinces of Connacht and Munster. The IRFU stated that the two teams may select players from the other two provinces to balance the teams and cover all positions. Their first squad was unveiled on 20 December 2023. Denis Fogarty
Denis Fogarty (born 16 July 1983) is a former Irish rugby union player who played at hooker for Munster, Aurillac, Agen and Provence. He has also represented Ireland at schoolboy, U21 and 'A' level. He was educated at Rockwell College. In May 2016, Fogarty was forced to retire from rugby after suffering a recurrence of a shoulder injury. Munster Fogarty made his debut for Munster against The Borders in the Celtic League in November 2004. When Frankie Sheahan sustained an injury, Fogarty was called up onto the bench for Munster's 2006 Heineken Cup Final against Biarritz Olympique in May 2006. He was part of the Munster A team that won the 2011–12 British and Irish Cup. His last game for Munster was the away play-off semi-final against Ospreys on 11 May 2012, which Munster lost 45-10. Celtic Challenge
The Celtic Challenge is a cross-border women's rugby union competition that will be held annually, launched in 2023. Designed to develop players for the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the inaugural pilot edition featured a double round robin between three teams, one from each participating union. From 2024 the competition will involve six teams, two from each participating union. Beginning with the 2024–25 season, the competition will maintain its six-team setup, transitioning into a full home-and-away round-robin format. The winners will be determined by standings at the end of the season. The three participating unions fund the competition, with further development funding from World Rugby. The 2024–25 Celtic Challenge was the third season of the Celtic Challenge, a cross-border women's rugby union competition with teams from Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. The six team tournament featured a full double round robin fixture series, with each team playing the others both home and away. Musgrave Park, Cork
Musgrave Park, known as Virgin Media Park for sponsorship reasons, is a rugby football stadium in the city of Cork, Ireland. The ground is situated on Pearse Road in Ballyphehane. The ground is named after Jimmy Musgrave, a past-president of the Irish Rugby Football Union. Owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), it is primarily used by Dolphin RFC, Sundays Well RFC, and Munster Rugby. History and development The ground was first purchased by the Munster Branch of the IRFU in the late 1930s, and in use by the early 1940s. Larissa Muldoon
Larissa Muldoon (born 11 March 1991), from Ballybofey, County Donegal, is a rugby union player for Railway Union, Ulster rugby and the Irish Rugby Football Union. Her first sport was ladies gaelic football which she played for Donegal at Under-14 and Under-16 level. Leah Lyons (born 27 November 1994) is an Irish rugby player from Cork. She plays prop for Sale Sharks, Munster and the Ireland women's national rugby union team. She has represented Ireland since 2016.
