Cline, Oklahoma
Cline is a ghost town in Beaver County, Oklahoma, United States. It is located approximately one-half mile from the nearest highway built by the WPA. By the time the highway was constructed, Clive had been disestablished. History Cline was founded on May 5, 1894, as a farm town and was dissolved on March 31, 1948. Before Cline was disestablished it used to have a post office, cemetery (located at ), store, and school, as well as a large population for its time. In 1905, a blacksmithy was built as well as a feed barn to sell feed and hold stock sales. In 1912, the stock was moved to Gate, the post office was discontinued and the mail came from Gate by Star Route. The store in 1901 was run by a man by the name of J. B. Lamaster. John and Bob Carr operated the store and post office later on. Cline School Cline school was built just west of Cline store(Sec.33, T. 3, R. 29), and then later moved on land owned by A. H. Beaver County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,636. The county seat is Beaver. The U.S. state of Oklahoma has 77 counties. It is ranked 20th in size and 17th in the number of counties, between Mississippi with 82 counties and Arkansas with 75 counties. Oklahoma originally had seven counties (Logan, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Canadian, Kingfisher, Payne, and Beaver) when it was first organized as the Oklahoma Territory. These counties were designated numerically, first through seventh. New counties added after this were designated by letters of the alphabet. The first seven counties were later renamed. The Oklahoma Constitutional Convention named all of the counties that were formed when Oklahoma entered statehood in 1907. Only two counties have been formed since then. Works Progress Administration
The Works Progress Administration (WPA; renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration) was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers (mostly men who were not formally educated) to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads. It was set up on May 6, 1935, by presidential order, as a key part of the Second New Deal. The WPA's first appropriation in 1935 was $4.9 billion (about $15 per person in the U.S., around 6.7 percent of the 1935 GDP). Headed by Harry Hopkins, the WPA supplied paid jobs to the unemployed during the Great Depression in the United States, while building up the public infrastructure of the US, such as parks, schools, and roads. Gate, Oklahoma
Gate is a town in Beaver County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 60 at the time of the 2020 census. The community was named for the fact it was the "gateway" to a ranching area. History Hangman's Tree The area was a part of "No Man's Land" or the Oklahoma Panhandle, where no laws from other states could reach. Outlaws could commit crimes in Kansas or Texas, ride across the border and live protected from the laws. Violence, claim jumping, and thieving forced the honest settlers to form vigilance committees. Gate and Neutral City (located approximately five miles west) had carved a niche in badman history with hot lead. Low regard for property and human life was rampant across this lawless land.
