Cleburne County, Alabama
Cleburne County is a county located in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,056. Its county seat is Heflin. Its name is in honor of Patrick R. Cleburne of Arkansas who rose to the rank of major general in the Confederate States Army. The eastern side of the county borders the state of Georgia. History Cleburne County was established on December 6, 1866, by an act of the state legislature. The county was made from territory in Benton (now Calhoun), Randolph, and Talladega counties. In 1867, Edwardsville was made the county seat. An election was held in 1905 to move the county seat to Heflin. The result of that election, which agreed to move the seat, was appealed to the Supreme Court, who decided on July 1, 1906, to uphold the election results. Heflin is still the county seat. Carroll County, Georgia
Carroll County is a county located in the northwestern part of the State of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, its population was 119,148. Its county seat is the city of Carrollton. Carroll County is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area and is also adjacent to Alabama on its western border. State Route 46 (Alabama)
State Route 46 (SR 46) is a state highway in Cleburne County in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 78 (US 78) (which also carries the unsigned SR 4) in Heflin. The eastern terminus of the route is at the Georgia state line, east of Ranburne, where the roadway continues as Georgia State Route 166. From the late 1920s to the mid-to-late-1930s, the highway was designated as US 78S, a divided U.S. highway. When that highway was decommissioned, it was redesignated as US 78 Alt. State Route 9 (Alabama)
State Route 9 (SR 9) is one of the longest state highways in the U.S. state of Alabama. From the Florida state line north to Montgomery, SR 9 is the unsigned partner route of U.S. Route 331 (US 331). As a signed route, the southern terminus of SR 9 is at its junction with US 231 and SR 21 at Wetumpka, and the northern terminus of the route is at the Georgia state line east of Cedar Bluff, where the route becomes State Route 20 (SR 20). Talladega National Forest
The Talladega National Forest is located in the U.S. state of Alabama and covers 392,567 acres (613.39 sq mi, or 1,588.66 km2) at the southern edge of the Appalachian Mountains. Before it was bought by the federal government in the 1930s, the area that comprises the Talladega was extensively logged and represented some of the most abused, eroded wastelands in all of Alabama.
