Claremont is a rural / residential locality in the local government areas (LGA) of City of Glenorchy, Glenorchy (75%) and Derwent Valley Council, Derwent Valley (25%) in the Hobart LGA Region, Hobart and South-east LGA Region, South-east LGA regions of Tasmania. The locality is about north of the town of Glenorchy, Tasmania, Glenorchy. The 2016 Australian census, 2016 census recorded a population of 7750 for the state suburb of Claremont. History Claremont was gazetted as a locality in 1960. Claremont (country House)
Claremont, also known historically as 'Clermont', is an 18th-century Palladian mansion less than a mile south of the centre of Esher in Surrey, England. The buildings are now occupied by Claremont Fan Court School, and its landscaped gardens are owned and managed by the National Trust. Claremont House is a Grade I listed building. Claremont estate The first house on the Claremont estate was built in 1708 by Sir John Vanbrugh, the Restoration playwright and architect of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard, for his own use. Metro FC (formerly Metro Claremont Football Club) is a football club formed in 1941 in the northern suburb of Claremont, Hobart, Tasmania. They play at North Chigwell Oval. It has a range of teams for all ages and genders playing in competitions run by the Football Federation Tasmania. Its teams range from under 7s right through to seniors. The teams' colours are yellow and blue. Metro were relegated to the Southern Division 1 competition in 2008 and have placed 2nd in all but 2 seasons.
