Clara Ponsatí
Clara Ponsatí i Obiols (; born 19 March 1957) is a Catalan economist and politician. She was appointed Minister of Education of the Government of Catalonia by President Carles Puigdemont on 14 July 2017, and was dismissed by the Spanish Government pursuant to Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution on 27 October 2017, due to the organisation of the 2017 Catalan independence referendum and the subsequent declaration of independence. On 30 October 2017, she went into exile in Brussels together with Carles Puigdemont and three other members of his government, Lluís Puig, Antoni Comín and Meritxell Serret. In May 2018, she returned to the University of St Andrews (Scotland) as a professor. In the 2019 Spanish municipal elections, she was placed last on the list of the candidacy Barcelona és capital - Primàries, led by Jordi Graupera. Together For Catalonia (2020)
Together for Catalonia (, JxCat), frequently shortened to Junts, is a Catalan nationalist and pro-independence political party that sits on the centre-right of the political spectrum. It is the second-largest party in the Parliament of Catalonia, holding 35 of the 135 seats. The current party president since 2024 is Carles Puigdemont. Junts was established in July 2020 by former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, as a result of his rupture with the Catalan nationalist Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT). Meritxell Serret Aleu (born 19 June 1975) is a Spanish politician, who served as Minister of Foreign Action and European Union of Catalonia and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food. Antoni "Toni" Comín i Oliveres (; born 7 March 1971) is a Catalan intellectual and politician from Spain. He is currently the executive vice-president of the Council for the Republic and has been an MEP since July 2019. He is the fourth child of the politician and intellectual Alfonso Carlos Comín i Ros and Maria Lluïsa Oliveres i Sanvicens, whose other children are Maria, Pere and Betona. He is the partner of the stage designer Sergi Corbera, and they have a daughter called Laia. He completed his primary, secondary and baccalaureate education at the Santa Ana school in Barcelona and he also studied music, specialising in piano, up to advanced level at the School of Music of Barcelona. Lluís Puig i Gordi (Terrassa, 18 October 1959) is an art director, dancer, musician, folklorist and Spanish politician from Catalonia. 2017 Catalan Independence Referendum
An independence referendum was held on 1 October 2017 in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia, passed by the Parliament of Catalonia as the Law on the Referendum on Self-determination of Catalonia and called by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Article 155
Article 155 of the Constitution of Spain grants the government of Spain a coercive mechanism to force an autonomous community to comply with the law when it severely contravenes the Constitution of Spain or other laws, or when its actions seriously threaten the general interest of Spain. The article is inspired by the mechanism of "federal coercion" (''Bundeszwang'') provided in article 37 of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany.
