Civic Initiative For Freedom, Justice And Survival
Civic Initiative for Freedom, Justice and Survival ( sr, Грађанска иницијатива “За слободу, правду и останак”, Građanska inicijativa “Za slobodu, pravdu i ostanak”, GI SPO) is a Serb minority political organization in Kosovo. It has one seat in the Assembly of Kosovo. GI SPO is led by Milan Dabić and its only MP is Cvetko Veljković, former head of the Office for Communities in the government of Albin Kurti. History GI SPO participated in the 2021 Kosovan parliamentary election. Among its candidates were Rada Trajković, a former minister of family and services in the Government of Serbia from 1998 to 2000 and Cvetko Veljković, former head of the Office for Comunities in the government of Albin Kurti. Rada Trajković (; ; born 8 March 1953) is a Kosovo Serb politician, president of the European Movement of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija who served as the Minister of Family Services in the Government of Serbia and the second cabinet of Mirko Marjanović from 24 March 1998 to 24 October 2000. Biography Early life and career Rada Trajković was born as Rada Vujačić to a Kosovo Serb family on 8 March 1953, in Podujevo. Her father Mato was a merchant and is of Montenegrin Serb heritage, while her mother Radojka was a housewife. She has a brother Radomir. She finished elementary school in Podujevo. The Serb List ( sr, / ; al, Lista Serbe) is a Kosovo Serbs, Serb minority List of political parties in Kosovo, political party in Kosovo. Štrpce
Štrpce (Serbian Cyrillic: Штрпце) or Shtërpca ( sq-definite, Shtërpcë), is a town and municipality located in the Ferizaj District in Kosovo. As of 2015, it has an estimated population of 13,630 inhabitants. After the 2013 Brussels Agreement, the municipality has been included to be part of a yet to be formed Community of Serb Municipalities. Nenad Rašić (, ; born 27 January 1973) is a Kosovo Serb politician serving as the minister for communities and returns of Kosovo since 1 December 2022. Previously he served as the minister of labor and social welfare of Kosovo from 2008 to 2014 and as a member of the Assembly of Kosovo from 2014 to 2017. Known for his moderate views, Rašić was one of the founders of the Independent Liberal Party (SLS) and its high-ranking member until his removal from the party in 2013 and is currently the president of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDS). 2021 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 14 February 2021. The results were a landslide victory for Vetëvendosje led by Albin Kurti and its coalition partner, Vjosa Osmani, former speaker of the parliament of Kosovo. The alliance won more than 50% of the total votes, the highest share since the first elections held in 2001, while their nearest rivals, the Democratic Party, finished in second place, trailing by more than 33%. Background The October 2019 parliamentary elections saw opposition party Vetëvendosje emerge as the largest faction in parliament, finishing just ahead of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Kosovo Serbs
Kosovo Serbs are one of the ethnic groups of Kosovo. There are around 100,000 Kosovo Serbs as of 2014 and about half of them live in North Kosovo. Other Serb communities live in southern Kosovo. After Albanians, they form the largest ethnic community in Kosovo (4-7%). The medieval Kingdom of Serbia (1217–1346) and the Serbian Empire (1346–1371) included parts of the territory of Kosovo until its annexation by the Ottomans following the Battle of Kosovo (1389), considered one of the most notable events of Serbian history. Albin Kurti
Albin Kurti (; born 24 March 1975) is a Kosovar Albanian politician and activist, serving as the Prime Minister of Kosovo since 22 March 2021, having previously served in that role between February and June 2020. He came to prominence in 1997 as the vice-president of the University of Pristina student union, and a main organizer of non-violent demonstrations in 1997 and 1998. When Adem Demaçi became the political representative of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Kurti worked in his office. Cvetko Veljković
Cvetko Veljković (, ) is a Kosovo Serb politician serving as a member of the Assembly of Kosovo since 17 November 2022. He is a member of the Civic Initiative for Freedom, Justice and Survival (GI SPO). Biography Veljković was born in Štrpce, SAP Kosovo, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia. He holds a degree in economy. In May 2020, Veljković was appointed head of the Office for Communities by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, replacing Nenad Rašić who resigned earlier. Following his appointment, it was revealed that some years earlier Veljković had posted songs dedicated to Ratko Mladić on his Facebook account, raising controversy.
