City Of Echuca
The City of Echuca was a local government area in Victoria, Australia, about north of Melbourne, the state capital. Based around the regional centre of Echuca, along the Murray River, the city covered an area of , and existed from 1865 until 1994. History The Borough of Echuca was incorporated on 3 January 1865, and became a city on 1 March 1965, just after its centenary celebrations. On 18 November 1994, the City of Echuca was abolished, and along with the Town of Kyabram, the Shires of Deakin, Rochester and Waranga, and some neighbouring districts, was merged into the newly created Shire of Campaspe. North Central Victoria
North Central Victoria is a rural region in the Australian state of Victoria. The region lies to the south of the Victorian/New South Wales border as defined by the Murray River, to the southwest of the Hume region, to the west of the Great Dividing Range contained within the Central Highlands and Victorian Alps, to the north of Greater Melbourne, to the northeast of the Wimmera, and to the east of the Mallee region. Echuca ( ) is a town on the banks of the Murray River and Campaspe River in Victoria, Australia. The border town of Moama is adjacent on the northern side of the Murray River in New South Wales. Echuca is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Shire of Campaspe. As of the , Echuca had a population of 15,056, and the population of the combined Echuca and Moama townships was 22,568. Echuca lies within traditional Yorta Yorta country. The town's name is a Yorta Yorta word meaning "meeting of the waters". Echuca is close to the junction of the Goulburn, Campaspe, and Murray Rivers. Murray Shire
Murray Shire was a local government area in the Riverina region of south western New South Wales, Australia. It included the towns of Moama and Mathoura. It was abolished on 12 May 2016 and its area merged with the Wakool Shire to establish the Murray River Council. The last mayor of Murray Shire was Cr. Thomas Weyrich, an independent politician. History The Murray Shire region was developed in the 1840s by squatters following the route of the overlanders as they drove cattle from Sydney to Adelaide in the late 1830s. From the 1860s onwards, the selectors, mainly from Victoria, moved onto the squatter's land, their interest agriculture. The settlements of Moama and Mathoura survived over the years as centres for the movement of agriculture produce and the growth of the timber industry.
