Ciarán Martyn
Ciarán Martyn (born 25 March 1980) is an Irish retired footballer who last played as a midfielder for Ballinamallard United of the NIFL Premiership. Career Born in Sligo, Ireland, Martyn started his career at U.C.D. where he scored in a 2000 UEFA Intertoto Cup clash with PFC Velbazhd Kyustendil. Martyn played with Derry City from 2002 until his loan move to Fredrikstad F.K. in 2007. He is one of the few players (if not the only one) who have paid to play for Derry City. Having signed a pre-contract with Shelbourne a number of seasons ago, he changed his mind and was forced to pay £8,000 to escape the agreement. An attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, the Sligo man moved to Derry to show his commitment to the club. In August 2006 Martyn scored twice in the 2006–07 UEFA Cup win over Gretna F.C. League Of Ireland Cup
The League of Ireland Cup, also referred to in Ireland as the 'League Cup', was an annual knockout competition in men's football in Ireland. It was contested by League of Ireland clubs and invited clubs from the lower levels of the Irish football league system. It has been sponsored by Electronic Arts and branded the EA Sports Cup since 2009. The competition began in 1973–74, replacing the League of Ireland Shield and the Dublin City Cup. It has had several formats since its inception and has been a knock-out competition since 2005. As there was no European qualification for winners of the League of Ireland Cup, it had a lower status than the FAI Cup and was therefore seen as the third most important trophy in the Irish playing season. The competition was not held in 2020 and 2021 as a result of delays and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and has yet to resume being held as of 2025. The FAI Cup 2006 was the 86th staging of The Football Association of Ireland Challenge Cup or FAI Cup. This season's competition was the last to be sponsored by Carlsberg. It officially kicked off in late April, when twenty clubs from the junior and intermediate leagues battled it out for the chance to face League of Ireland opposition in the second round. The Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup (FAI Cup), known as the Sports Direct FAI Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out association football competition contested annually by teams from the Republic of Ireland (as well as Derry City F.C., Derry City from Northern Ireland). Organised by the FAI (Football Association of Ireland), the competition is currently sponsored by ''Sports Direct''. It was known as the Free State Cup from 1923 to 1936. Shamrock Rovers F.C., Shamrock Rovers hold the record of most wins with 25. FAI Super Cup
The FAI Super Cup was an association football super cup featuring clubs from the Republic of Ireland. It was played for between 1998 and 2001. It was a pre-season tournament played in the summer before the regular League of Ireland season began. The same four clubs that qualified to represent the Republic of Ireland in UEFA competitions also qualified for the Super Cup. League of Ireland clubs had previously played in a similar competition known as the Top Four Cup. A similar competition, the LFA President's Cup, co-existed with the FAI Super Cup. Martyn Joseph Rooney (born 3 April 1987) is an English Sprint (running), sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres event. He reached the 400 m final at the 2008 Summer Olympics and won bronze in the 4 × 400 metres relay.
