Chéri-Bibi (TV Series)
''Chéri-Bibi'' is a French mystery crime television series which premiered on the ORTF 1 channel between 20 December 1974 and 18 February 1975. The programme was based on the series of four serial novels by Gaston Leroux. Previous adaptations of the stories include '' The Phantom of Paris'' (1931), '' Chéri-Bibi'' (1938) and '' Chéri-Bibi'' (1955). Soister & Nicolella p.123 Synopsis Chéri-Bibi is wrongly sentenced for a crime he did not commit and sent to serve in a penal colony in French Guiana. He leads a mutiny amongst his fellow prisoners and seizes the ship carrying there. He changes place with the dead Marquis du Touchais and travels back to France and assumes his identity. He lives a happy life with Cécily, the neglected with of the Marquis, until discovering that it was the Marquis who really committed the crime he was tried for and the police are now on his case. Gaston Leroux
Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux (; 6 May 186815 April 1927) was a French journalist and author of detective fiction. In the English-speaking world, he is best known for writing the novel ''The Phantom of the Opera'' (, 1909), which has been made into several film and stage productions of the same name, notably the 1925 film starring Lon Chaney and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical. His 1907 novel '' The Mystery of the Yellow Room'' is one of the most celebrated locked room mysteries. Life and career Leroux was born in Paris in 1868, the illegitimate child of Marie Bidaut and Dominique Leroux, who married a month after his birth. Daniel Emilfork (7 April 1924 – 17 October 2006) was a Chilean stage and film actor who made his career in France. Biography Emilfork was born in San Felipe, Chile after his Jewish socialist parents from Kiev fled a pogrom in Odessa.
