The Chère (; ) is a long river in the Loire-Atlantique and Ille-et-Vilaine ''départements'', northwestern France. Its source is at Soudan. It flows generally west. It is a left tributary of the Vilaine into which it flows between Pierric and Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine. Cher (river)
The Cher ( , ; ) is a river in central France, a left tributary of the Loire. It is long, and its Drainage basin, basin area is . Its source is in the Creuse departments of France, department, north-east of Crocq. It joins the river Loire at Villandry, west of Tours. The river suffered a devastating flood in 1940, which damaged the Château de Chenonceau, which spans the river, and other structures along the banks. It owes its name to the pre-Indo-European root kʰar 'stone'.
