Chvalšiny
Chvalšiny () is a municipality and village in Český Krumlov District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,200 inhabitants. The historic centre is well preserved and is protected as an urban monument zone. Administrative division Chvalšiny consists of four municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Chvalšiny (1,024) *Borová (102) *Červený Dvůr (90) *Hejdlov (9) Etymology The village was originally called Chvališín. The name was derived from the personal name Chvališa, meaning "Chvališa's (court)". Geography Chvalšiny is located about northwest of Český Krumlov and southwest of České Budějovice. Chvalšiny lies in the Bohemian Forest Foothills. The highest point is at above sea level. The stream of Chvalšinský potok flows through the municipality. The House of Schwarzenberg () is a German (Franconian Circle, Franconian) and Czech (Kingdom of Bohemia, Bohemian) aristocratic family, formerly one of the most prominent European noble houses. The Schwarzenbergs are members of the German nobility, German and Czech nobility, and they once held the rank of Princes of the Holy Roman Empire.
