Charles Nanby Wynn "Chunky" Woodward (March 23, 1924 – April 27, 1990) was a prominent Canadian retailer and rancher, son of William C. Woodward, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 1941 to 1946, and grandson of Charles A. Woodward, the founder of the Woodward's Woodward's Stores Ltd. was a department store chain that operated in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, for 101 years, before its sale to the Hudson's Bay Company. William Culham Woodward
William Culham Woodward, also known as Billy Woodward and Willy Woodward, (April 24, 1885 – February 24, 1957) was a member of a successful merchandising family in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Heir to the Woodward's department store chain founded by his father Charles A. Woodward in 1891, he started out in 1907 as a bookkeeper for the store, ultimately rising to become company president in 1937 upon his father's death. He was succeeded in that capacity by his son, Charles N. "Chunky" Woodward in 1956. Among the many other positions Woodward held were Charter Member of the Board of the Bank of Canada from its founding in March, 1935; President of the Vancouver Board of Trade; Life Governor of the Vancouver General Hospital; Founder and Patron of the Vancouver Little Theatre. Woodward's Stores Ltd. was a department store chain that operated in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, for 101 years, before its sale to the Hudson's Bay Company. History Charles Woodward established the first Woodward store at the corner of Main and Georgia Streets in Vancouver in 1892. On September 12, 1902, Woodward Department Stores Ltd. was incorporated, and a new store was built on the corner of Hastings and Abbott Streets. In 1926 a store was opened in Edmonton and by the late 1940s the company operated numerous stores in British Columbia and Alberta. The Douglas Lake Cattle Company is Canada's largest working cattle ranch, usually known as the Douglas Lake Ranch. Founded June 30, 1886, it has been operating continuously since. This date also marks the completion of the last leg of the first transcontinental rail line of the Canadian Pacific Railway from Montreal to Vancouver. The History of Douglas Lake Ranch spans a period of some 130 years dating back to the mid-1880s. In fact, Douglas Lake Ranch itself traces its name back to 1872 when John Douglas Sr. homesteaded his first 320 acres along its shore of its namesake lake. In 1884 John Douglas Sr. sold this property to Charles Beak, who, along with Joseph Greaves, Charles Thomson and William Ward, founded Douglas Lake Cattle Company.
