Chuck Melton
Charles Melton (born August 20, 1978) is an American wheelchair rugby player and member of the United States national wheelchair rugby team. Career Melton represented the United States at the 2019 Parapan American Games and won a gold medal in Wheelchair rugby at the 2019 Parapan American Games, wheelchair rugby. On April 30, 2024, he was selected to represent the United States at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Personal life In August 2002, Melton was involved in a diving accident, resulting in a C7 spinal cord injury. Wheelchair rugby (originally murderball, and known as quad rugby in the United States) is a team sport for Disabled sport, athletes with a disability. It is practiced in over twenty-five countries around the world and is a summer Paralympic sport. in wheelchair rugby, players cannot kick the ball, so they move the ball forward towards the goal by carrying the ball in their lap. Type of ball: In traditional rugby, athletes play the game using a rugby ball; however, wheelchair rugby athletes use a rounder ball, like a volleyball to play the game. 2019 Parapan American Games
The 2019 Parapan American Games (), officially the VI Pan American Games and commonly known as the Lima 2019 ParaPan-Am Games, were an international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities, celebrated in the tradition of the Parapan American Games as governed by the Americas Paralympic Committee, which was held from August 23 to September 1, 2019 in Lima, Peru. Bidding process Four bids were submitted for the 2019 Pan and Parapan American Games, and they were officially announced on February 1, 2013. These were Lima in Peru, Santiago in Chile, Ciudad Bolívar in Venezuela and La Punta, San Luis, La Punta in Argentina. Lima bid for the games for the second consecutive time after losing to Toronto for the 2015 edition of the games. The other three cities bid for the Parapan American games for the first time.
