Chuck Connors
Kevin Joseph "Chuck" Connors (April 10, 1921 – November 10, 1992) was an American actor and professional basketball and baseball player. He is one of only 13 athletes in the history of American professional sports to have played in both Major League Baseball ( Brooklyn Dodgers 1949, Chicago Cubs, 1951) and the National Basketball Association (Boston Celtics 1946–48). With a 40-year film and television career, he is best known for his five-year role as Lucas McCain in the highly rated ABC series '' The Rifleman'' (1958–63). Kamala Devi (actress)
Kamala Devi (8 October 1933 – 29 November 2010) was an Indian and American actress, best known for her roles in the 1960s opposite her first husband, Chuck Connors. Early Life She was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), British India on 11th October 1933. Her mother, Elizabeth, was of English-Welsh descent, and her father, Chandumal Amesur, was an Indian head-and-neck surgeon. As of 1963, both Devi's parents lived in Bombay, India. She lived in the US since 1960, and became a US Citizen after living in the country for 6 years. Devi became a US citizen on 2 December 1966. Career In 1958, Devi made her film debut in ''Harry Black'', starring Stewart Granger. In 1962, she played in ''Geronimo'' the lead role of Teela, the wife of the legendary Apache chief Geronimo, played by Chuck Connors. Southern Association
The Southern Association (SA) was a higher-level minor league in American organized baseball from 1901 through 1961. For most of its existence, the Southern Association was two steps below the Major Leagues; it was graded Class B (1902-1904), Class A (1905–1935), Class A1 (1936–1945), and Double-A (1946–1961). Although the SA was known as the Southern League through 1919, the later Double-A Southern League was not descended from the Southern Association; the modern SL came into existence in 1964 as the successor to the original ''South Atlantic'' ("Sally") League. Mobile Bears
The Mobile Bears were an American minor league baseball team based in Mobile, Alabama. The franchise was a member of the old Southern Association, a high-level circuit that folded after the 1961 season. Mobile joined the SA in 1908 as the ''Sea Gulls'', but changed its name to the ''Bears'' in 1918, and the nickname stuck. The club played in the Association until July 1931, when it moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. Almost exactly 13 years later, in July 1944, the Bears returned to Mobile when the Knoxville Smokies franchise shifted back from Tennessee. (A club known as the ''Mobile Shippers'' competed in the Class B Southeastern League from 1937 to 1942.) Newport News Dodgers
The Newport News Dodgers were a minor league baseball affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1944 to 1955. They played in the Piedmont League and were based in Newport News, Virginia. The teams played at Peninsula War Memorial Stadium on Pembroke Avenue in Hampton, Virginia from 1948 to 1955. The stadium was built by Brooklyn Dodgers president Branch Rickey. Previously, Newport News teams played at Builders' Park on Warwick Road (1944–1947) and prior to that at a ballpark on Wickham Avenue on the East End of Newport News. Fort Knox is a United States Army installation in Kentucky, south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Elizabethtown. Norfolk Tars
The Norfolk Tars were a minor league baseball team that existed on and off from 1906 to 1955. Based in Norfolk, Virginia, they played in the Virginia League from 1906 to 1918 and from 1921 to 1928, in the Eastern League (1916), Eastern League from 1931 to 1932 and in the Piedmont League from 1934 to 1955; during this latter period they were also affiliated with the New York Yankees.
