Chrysler Viper GTS-R
The Chrysler Viper GTS-R (also known as the Dodge Viper GTS-R when raced in North America) was a successful race car, racing variant of the Dodge Viper developed in conjunction with Chrysler of North America, Oreca of France and Reynard Motorsport of the United Kingdom. Officially unveiled at the 1995 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Pebble Beach Concours, it has won numerous championships and famous events in its history. Development In the early 1990s, first-generation Dodge Viper RT/10s had been modified by racing teams for use in GT racing in North America and Europe without much success. Although its V10 engine was powerful, the car was not adapted to racing and teams lacked the funding to build a car that could compete with factory efforts. Group GT1, also known simply as GT1, was a set of regulations maintained formerly by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), for Grand Tourer racing. The category was first created in 1993, as the top class of the BPR Global GT Series, and was included in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It fell under FIA regulation from 1997, after the BPR series came under the control of the FIA, becoming known as the FIA GT Championship. The category was dissolved at the end of 2011. The 1998 Privilege Insurance GT Championship was the sixth season of the British GT Championship, an auto racing series organized by the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) and sponsored by Privilege Insurance. The races featured grand touring cars conforming to two categories of regulations known as GT1 and GT2, and awarded an overall driver championship from the combined categories. The FFSA GT Championship (''Championnat de France FFSA GT'') is a French Grand Touring-style sports car racing series that began in 1997. The 2008 FIA GT Monza 2 Hours was the second race of the 2008 FIA GT Championship season. It took place at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy, on May 18, 2008. The #61 Prospeed Competition Porsche was initially disqualified after winning the GT2 class due to a refueling infraction. The team however appealed and their victory was reinstated. The Dodge Viper is a sports car that was manufactured by Dodge (by Street & Racing Technology, SRT for 2013 and 2014), a division of American car manufacturer Chrysler from 1992 until 2017, having taken a brief hiatus in 2007 and from 2011 to 2012. Production of the two-seat sports car began at Mack Avenue Engine Complex, New Mack Assembly Plant in 1991 and moved to Conner Avenue Assembly, Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in October 1995. Although Chrysler considered ending production because of serious financial problems, on September 14, 2010, then–chief executive Sergio Marchionne announced and previewed a new model of the Viper for 2012.
