Christian Democratic Movement
The Christian Democratic Movement ( sk, Kresťanskodemokratické hnutie, KDH) is a Christian-democratic political party in Slovakia that is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and an observer of the Centrist Democrat International. History The party was established in 1990. In the 1990s it was led by Ján Čarnogurský and then since 2000 by Pavol Hrušovský. Before the 2016 elections, it was led by Ján Figeľ. Following the defeat in the elections, Figeľ stepped down from the position and Pavol Zajac became temporary leader until the decisive party meeting on 19 March 2016. Figeľ endorsed Milan Majerský, mayor of Levoča, for the position. The KDH was a member of the government coalition, but it left that coalition on 7 February 2006 due to disputes over an international treaty between Slovakia and the Holy See dealing with the Conscientious objection on religious grounds. Christian Democratic Youth Of Slovakia
The Kresťanskodemokratická mládež Slovenska (''Christian Democratic Youth of Slovakia'') or KDMS is the youth organisation of the conservative Slovak political party, KDH. They share the same ideological platform with the KDH: a centre-right ideology, Christian democracy and economic liberalism. Membership focuses on young people aged between 15 and 35, while only those between 18 and 30 eligible to candidate for functions. KDMS claims to be the largest political youth organization in Slovakia with about 300 members in 2009 and 400 members in 2015. History The organisation was founded in 1990 as a Voluntary association cooperating since its outsets with the KDH party. The National Council of the Slovak Republic ( sk, Národná rada Slovenskej republiky), abbreviated to ''NR SR'', is the national parliament of Slovakia. It is unicameral and consists of 150 members, who are elected by universal suffrage under proportional representation with seats distributed via Hagenbach-Bischoff quota every four years. Ján Figeľ
Ján Figeľ (born 20 January 1960 in Čaklov) is a Slovak politician. Figeľ served as European Commissioner from 2004 to 2009, then as Slovak minister of Transports from 2010 to 2012. From 2016 to 2019 he was European Commission special envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion outside the EU. Biography Born in Čaklov, Figeľ studied power electronics at the Technical University of Košice for five years, beginning in 1978. During his studies, he was Faculty chairman of the Socialist Youth Union, a youth Marxist–Leninist organization of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Pavol Hrušovský (born 9 June 1952) was the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (the Slovak parliament) from 15 October 2002 to 7 February 2006 and party leader of the Christian Democratic Movement (2000–2009). Professional career In 1978 he earned his degree at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Christian Union ( sk, Kresťanská únia; ) (Independent Forum ( sk, Nezávislé fórum) in 1998—2019) is a Slovak right-wing conservative political party based on the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Life – National Party ( sk, Život – Národná strana), formerly known as Christian Democracy – Life and Prosperity - Alliance for Slovakia ( sk, Kresťanská demokracia – Život a prosperita - Aliancia za Slovensko, KDŽP), is a Christian democratic political party in Slovakia. History The split between the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and the KDŽP was sparked by a dispute between the presidency of the party and its member Peter Molda. The Slovak Conservative Party ( sk, Slovenská konzervatívna strana, abbreviated SKS), formerly known as Network ( sk, Sieť, self-styled #SIEŤ), was a centre-right political party in Slovakia. It was established by Radoslav Procházka, a former member of Christian Democratic Movement (KDH). History The party was founded by Radoslav Procházka in June 2014, after the 2014 presidential election. Sieť polled above 10% being second to Smer and was expected to become the major centre-right party after 2016 parliamentary election.
